0:03 foreign and welcome to the way to wow show people making money I'm your host Kevin bemel and we are here every Wednesday afternoon at 12 30 PM Pacific Time 3 30 p.m eastern time and an hour in each for um Central and mountain time and we talk about how to gain professional success however you define that um and and that's actually one of the topics we talked about how how are how would you choose to Define professional

0:39 success and then how do you get it so um I talk about those subjects I have guests I have some guests coming up uh in the in the next few weeks and um they will talk to you about the path that they took and I think you'll find some ideas from them that you can use in your own life and just want to note too that um starting next to which would be the 21st of February I'm launching a second show it's called the way to wow business lessons from the

1:14 military and it airs at 11 o'clock on 11 o'clock on Tuesdays for a half hour and I'm going to be taking ideas from a military Doctrine military philosophy that apply to having success in our professional lives so I invite you to tune in for that it'll be on all of the social media channels that this show appears on and with with that show too on occasion we'll have some guests from the military who have used what

1:50 they learned there in their civilian professional lives so again I invite you to tune in to that and for today here on uh the way to wow people making money I want to talk about marketing and then that's a huge subject so I'm going to focus specifically on how to get your first few clients or customers so for for any business right we need need we need clients and customers whether they're buying things from us or buying services from US unless somebody is

2:26 willing to pay us for what we're doing or making all we really have is a terrific hobby right but but it's it's it's not a business so um I I have a I have a number of thoughts on it that I'm going to share with you I'm going to start out just talking about a few basic principles to keep in mind whenever you're out there looking for customers and then I'm going to talk about a couple of tactics you can actually use right away and they will cost you little or nothing to

3:03 pursue um and and they are very effective ways of of getting clients so but before I I I well so the the primary idea I want to convey to you in your marketing efforts in your we'll call them client acquisition efforts is consistency consistency consistency I'll say it over and over again throughout Today's Show so one of the most difficult challenges of running a business especially a small

3:39 business is and I've talked about this before on other shows that we um we start looking for customers or clients and we get some and then we shifted to taking care of them but we let the marketing draw and so then we take care of them and now we're done with those but we don't have any more customers or clients so that and and what it leads to is this sort of up and down cycle of feast and famine that makes it very very difficult to to run a business and I I know this uh from from my personal life experience

4:16 it it was perhaps the most difficult challenge for me to overcome and so what I recommend is whatever you do to acquire client customers and clients set it up in a way that you will be able to do it consistently okay not just when you have no clients to take care of but even when you have clients to take care of so being consistent is the single most important

4:52 aspect of a good marketing plan you have to do it day in and day out now you don't literally have to do it seven days a week you don't necessarily even have to do it five days a week but I would say at a minimum four days a week you should be engaging in a marketing activity on a consistent continual basis okay so that's that's principle number one is consistency principle number two and this applies to

5:28 business in general but in particular into finding customers and clients is you need to have a proven plan a proven strategy for acquiring your clients and your Co and or your customers there are lots of them out there okay I'm gonna give you one that I I really like I I have no you know financial interest in this or anything like that it's something that I've used for years and years and years I think it's it's very simple to use

6:05 it's easy to understand and and it's called um guerrilla marketing so this happens to be guerrilla marketing in 30 days if you go on uh to Amazon or wherever you buy your books you'll see lots of different guerrilla marketing uh books of all different kinds Gorilla Marketing for this industry that is or whatever this one in particular Gorilla Marketing in 30 days is a plan that you can follow literally for the first 30 days of your marketing and by the time you're done

6:41 you will have been through all of the important uh issues and principles of marketing you'll have learned a tremendous amount about marketing you'll have a plan to Market your business and you will have begun to work that plan all of that here you can see it's it's it's not a particularly long book it won't take you hours and hours each day quite to the contrary just a little bit of time each day and and you will be set up and you'll notice here I I you know I bookmarked certain parts of the book um that I that I go back to and several

7:17 of the things that I'm going to talk about today come from this book um and I'm not going to go through the whole plan obviously we're not going to cover 30 A month's worth of material you know in in an hour um and I I will put a link to this book in the show notes so that you can get it if you choose to um and and but whether you go with the gorilla marketing plan or you come up with some other plan you need to have a proven plan a proven system for marketing your business

7:53 okay being haphazard it just just doesn't doesn't work okay and when I say a proven system it's got to be something that's worked for other people number one and number two that works for you okay we all have different personalities we have strengths and we have weaknesses choosing a marketing strategy that plays to our weaknesses is a recipe for failure frankly okay so as you look at potential marketing plans

8:28 look for one that will take advantage of your strengths and will not necessitate using the areas in which you're weak okay now that that may be difficult and you may have to go to you may have to try you know two or three or more until you find what what works for you Works within your your skill set and that's fine okay that's perfectly fine now you know going back to uh guerrilla marketing uh in 30 days one of the nice

9:03 things about this particular system is you go through all sorts of different marketing tactics and you can get an idea well gee is this something I think is going to work for me okay and if one tactic doesn't work for you you can substitute in another one there's there's some flexibility there okay now if your experienced in marketing you may be able to put your own plan together based on what's worked in the past that's perfectly fine if it worked in the past that's a proven system especially for you it's I ideally suited

9:38 for you evidently because you've been successful with it before if you're brand new to business or a relatively new to business you don't have a lot of experience marketing then I suggest you look for um a system that that somebody else has developed that has had success with it and um then you can work on that and as you become more experienced then you'll make it more and more your own okay and and and and that's that's perfectly fine in fact that's that's the best way to do it start out working the system as close to

10:14 how it's it's explaining it should be used as possible and then as you learn more about it you learn more about marketing you learn more about where how and where you're effective you can start making alterations that will improve your ability to to land customers and clients okay so principle number one consistency principle number two have a proven plan or system for acquiring customers or clients okay by the way what you know what is the difference between a customer and a client I I'm

10:51 don't even know if there is a real difference anymore clients sound like the people professionals do business with customers sound like more of a retail thing so you know if if you have a a clothing store for example I think you have customers does that make sense if you have a plumbing business I don't know do you have customers or you have clients Plumbing is kind of a profession I don't know I I whatever you choose to call them uh I don't know do people get you know insulted if you call them a customer instead of a client these days

11:26 I I don't know I I I I'm agnostic on them I I'll tell you that but uh however you view it you know I I would say again be consistent in what you're looking and who you're looking to to attract Okay so two things about how you shape up your marketing plan number one whatever you're doing to Market your business okay it needs to include a call to

12:01 action okay now that may sound okay yeah that's obvious a lot of the marketing though that you'll see doesn't have a call to action in it so you'll hear about brand marketing you have to establish your brand well there is some truth to that of course uh but for most of us our brand is us and our brand is going to be things like we're knowledgeable we're reliable

12:36 uh were Dependable we're honest okay so to put out marketing that just describes our good qualities it's in my experience that's not going to get us anywhere okay um people don't care now it's all good and well for uh you know Coca-Cola to Market itself as whatever they're marketing themselves as these days I don't know are they the beverage that refreshes or whatever that is Coca-Cola's brand is worth you know billions and billions of dollars okay so

13:11 and and even so oftentimes you'll see in Coca-Cola's advertising drink Coca-Cola right there that's the call to action drink us because that's how we make money okay so whenever you're thinking about marketing yourself or advertising yourself however you're doing that explain to people what you want them to do okay so if you've got a plumbing business you want them to call you okay right when you have a problem Plumbing problem call us we'll help

13:48 right that's a call to action if you have a retail store maybe you're selling clothing drop by our store see what we have for you to wear or however you would you know explain that right there's got to be some call explain to people help them absorb what it is you want them to do okay we do a great job fixing your pipes terrific okay move on right

14:23 when you have a broken pipe or a plugged up drain call us much much better right because that'll that especially over time that sticks in people's heads and that's what you're looking to do so I I don't remember the statistics anymore of how often people have to hear a message before they remember it but it's multiple times so your call to action they need to see it hear it many many many times before they're going to act on it in most cases now some people will act on

14:59 it the first time they hear it because they have an immediate need but for most people they need to hear that call to action over and over again so that when the need arises in the future their head on oh I got a call such and such Plumbing I have to go to such and such a store to get my clothes okay you see what you're that's what you're trying to create for them okay if you're a real estate agent selling a house call me for a free um uh what is it called a free

15:34 evaluation okay of of your home or call me for a free marketing plan of your home that's a call to action okay so there's there's a there's a real estate agent very well known here in the neighborhood where I live and on bus benches all around it says this real estate agent knows this area and I look at that I'm like okay I mean and by the way he's very successful so maybe at this point that's all he needs to point out is that he knows the area very well that but that alone I don't

16:09 know it seems to me you would want to say something like you know call me if you have questions about real estate call me if you have questions about the residential the house the house market or or something like that or you know visit my website or whatever it is okay same with something like Financial Services right um have a question about retirement call me okay have some money you need to invest call me or you know schedule an appointment for a free financial

16:46 analysis or however whatever whatever will you think will be most effective in attracting the people that you want to serve okay so there's lots of ways to do calls of action you know if you if you were if you go on to a search engine and just type in you know marketing calls to action you'll get whole lists of them and you can find ones that that resonate with you and you think will be effective for your business maybe you'll be right the first time maybe you won't maybe the initial call to action you have you know

17:22 gets you nowhere okay and by the way one of the hard issue one of the hard parts of doing marketing is knowing when do I need to change it if you're not getting the results you want it could be because it's just you you need more time so that people hear your message enough times that they start calling you but there's a point at which they've heard your message enough times and they're still not calling you it means your message is not resonating and so you have to shift okay and by the way sometimes the message just gets boring or it gets

17:57 outdated and so you have to shift it anyway those are all very difficult calls to make there's no you know tried and true way to do them accurately it's going to be judgment calls on your part one of the ways to find out is to talk to people that asks what do you think about this I don't sound very good or yeah that wow that's kind of cool isn't it or whatever reactions you get so don't be afraid to talk to people don't and especially if

18:34 you have colleagues in the same business who are you know willing to share with you so talk to them what's what's worked for them may I steal from from you so but but just give you here here's an example so the new show that I'm doing business lessons from the military I basically stole that idea from a good friend of mine who started doing a show called uh business lessons from the Bible right which I wish I thought of that before he did right because I could steal it directly you know being in Rabbi and all that kind of stuff but

19:09 fortunately I have this other Avenue that I can go down and and I I think it's a terrific idea right and and and so maybe you can take an idea that somebody else is doing tweak it a little bit and off you go okay so you can do that with calls to action as well look at what other people in your uh in your field are doing and and and what seems to work okay and you know don't steal it directly especially if it's copywritten if it's copy written don't don't take it okay that's just a whole

19:44 messy kind of worms you don't want to get into okay but but alter it to be more specific to you and uh you know there you go okay so anytime you do anything with marketing make sure that you have a call to action okay the next thing and then really the second fundamental principle that you want to work on is make sure you are clear about what your competitive Advantage is

20:22 okay so we need to tell people not only what to do the call to action but why okay so for the fastest service for the highest quality repairs for individualized uh wardrobe consultations call me now visit me now do you see how those two things work in concert

20:57 okay and that's what you're looking to do that's the core of your marketing message and in the end it's why people are going to patronize your business okay so there's a a plumbing company here in Los Angeles and and they've had the same thing for years and they talk about how their plumbers show up on time smell nice don't get your house dirty right um in contrast to the the they use the word Bubba oh they're not the word Bubba they use Bubba who never shows up on

21:33 time never tells you how much it's going to cost before he comes you know gets your house dirty smells bad you know dress is messy right they contrast themselves with with that I mean I don't know how many plumbers are like Bubba anymore I don't know um but but but you you you know from the get-go here's what they think is their competitive advantage their prompt they're on time you know what it's going to cost you it's not going to be a icky experience so if you

22:08 have if you need plumbing services call us there you go that's their competitive advantage and that is their um and that is their um call to action now um so I have a friend of mine who runs a clothing men's clothing store in Century City it's called allendales yeah I'll give her a plug here right Shameless plug so Irene Becker she has a small men's clothing store now Irene has been in the men's clothing business for decades which is kind of interesting because she looks so young but but she's been around the business a long time she

22:44 knows it extremely well and in an age where most men's clothing stores have closed okay she has maintained her business and she's very very busy now the reason I think she's so busy is she has a competitive Advantage so when you go see Irene at allendales you're going to get very specific help

23:19 with clothes that will make you look as good as you can and she knows because she's been doing it for so long okay as opposed to as opposed to if you were to go to say Nordstroms and I like Nordstroms they have nice stuff there and all that the level of the knowledge of the people working at Nordstrom's is not what it used to be 10 or 20 30 years ago I remember when I first used to go to Nordstrom's back end I think it was I want to say the 80s so you had what amounted to a personal

23:55 shopper there you know no matter what kind of customer you were and they were very skilled in helping you choose clothes that made you look as good as possible I don't see that same level of service anymore at Nordstrom's any longer Unfortunately I I you know look the the department store business very very tough business a lot of department stores have closed but in the end I think North one of Nordstrom's problems is they lost that competitive Advantage because that was an advantage they had over their competitors like Macy's and Robinsons which isn't around

24:32 anymore and uh May Company which I I think still is I'm not I'm not sure Bloomingdale's these are all the you know department stores that are still around sometimes you will find someone at these other stores that really knows clothing and can really help you uh by the way I'm I I assume it's on the women's side as well I've just never bought women's clothing at least not for myself uh but but Nordstrom's was known no matter who you spoke to that person was going to be skilled at helping you dress your best now Nordstrom is I think pretty much

25:08 like all the other department stores that that are still around so they don't have that competitive Advantage Irene and allendale's does and that's why I think she is has got you know I've looked obviously during covid things got very slow but she's built up and she's she's very very busy when I drop by to see her you know there's there's people coming in and out she's got you know appointments booked and all that kind of stuff so um you know that that is so so if I were you know writing a marketing uh slogan

25:44 or a marketing pitch for allendales I'd say um we will make you look your best drop by our store or call us something like that okay competitive Advantage call to action okay and and and those are the two that are going to distinguish you and drive your marketing effort no matter what tactic it is okay so tactics are how we'll actually use those but those two pieces are the

26:21 fundamental uh foundational pieces of your marketing strategy be clear on those if you're not clear on those your potential customers will not be clear on them either okay and someone else who is clear on them they're going to get the business okay so it's really worth thinking about it talking about it to other people talking to friends and you know who might be potential customers and see what what resonates with them what make what makes them go oh yeah I like that or wow that

26:57 sounds that really sounds great or no no I don't know I don't think I would respond to that whatever it is try it out on people don't don't you know don't be afraid to I don't know look foolish or or whatever just you know get out there and and and and try some things out and and then you know again just then actually try them out see if you get customers from from your marketing efforts whatever you're doing okay so that's that's on the strategy side of marketing and the strategy and operations side you know strictly

27:32 military um in that case so what I want to do now is talk about two tactics that you can use to build your business really no matter what your business is doesn't matter could be a product business could be a service business doesn't matter okay you can use both of these and and they will they they will they can be successful okay so I'm gonna start with the one that is most likely

28:08 to be successful okay and this is what it is pick up your phone and call everyone you know that's it call friends call colleagues acquaintances just call them okay and talk to them don't leave messages for the most part erase you know a lot most people I think don't listen to messages so call them

28:45 okay don't text call now you're not looking to sell them anything that's why the calls will be effective wait wait what I'm I'm gonna get customers by not trying to sell them anything yeah right and so if if you're uncomfortable making so-called sales calls don't worry about it because that's not what you're doing you're just calling people okay

29:20 and it's really you know the other number you know I uh Melody whatever her name whatever the person's name is yeah it's Kevin I I just yeah I just want to take a minute of your time say hello see how you're doing yeah oh good good well and I just wanted to also want to let you know I I've started a new business and here's what we do yeah and if you ever have any questions about Plumbing feel free to call me okay and if you just want to ask the

29:55 question no charge just just if you have questions about Plumbing call me because I want to be the person who can help you when when the chips are down the water is Flowing you know and and so if there's some way I can help you with that feel free to just give me a call shoot me a text message say hey here's what's going on what do I do and and I will respond to you as soon as possible take care bye click okay that's all you got to do okay all you're

30:30 gonna do real simple doesn't have to be long don't wanna do don't need to take too much time okay now you may want to say you know if there's some way I can help you or anything I can do to help you let me know okay I'm here okay but that's it and just keep doing that what I would recommend is you block out in your calendar a certain amount of time each day maybe start out if if you think it's going to be difficult to do you've never done it before just do it for even 15 minutes consistently

31:07 just 15 minutes we can all call up our friends for 15 minutes and let us let them know about this exciting new thing that we're doing okay and if there are friends they're going to be happy to hear from us they're going to be you know hey that's great you started a business congratulations thanks thanks so much look you know I I want to be your go-to person when it comes to clothing so if there's any question I can answer give me a call shoot me a text message thanks talk to you later right that's it

31:42 real simple the key thing is the consistency right I told you I was going to be using this word over and over and over again okay so if you're gonna do if you're gonna start out doing 15 minutes a day do 15 minutes a day without fail that's why I recommend putting it into your schedule this is my time for calling people and letting telling them about my business or telling them I'm in business however you want to describe that okay maybe start out with 15 minutes and if you get comfortable with 15 minutes so you'll

32:17 expand it to 30 minutes and I would say you want to get to the point where you're doing it for at least an hour a day okay now depending on how busy your business is depending on what your other commitments are an hour may be difficult okay at least in the beginning so you know you'll have to make your own decision okay but whatever that is schedule it in and just make the calls make the calls okay without fail okay now if you if you you know call someone and it rings four or

32:53 five times they don't answer don't don't leave a a a message just hang up okay and move on to the next person you're gonna call okay now by the way they may call you back say hey I saw you called but she didn't leave a message oh yeah I mean it was nothing crucial you know I just wanted to say hello see how you're doing and tell you about the new business that I started that's all oh you start a new business okay there you go and now now you've got a call done okay so again don't leave messages now if you

33:30 try to get a hold of somebody three times and they don't pick up any of those times then go ahead and on the third time and leave a message hi it's Kevin I was calling to say hello and see how you're doing um if you want to call me back you have my number otherwise uh you know I'll I'll call again to touch base soon that's all that's a again real simple very low key don't sell there's there's no point to that especially if you're new in the business and you have no idea whether

34:05 the person needs your your service or your product okay that's not what you're looking to do okay so again call your friends your colleagues family members okay and just just talk to them I will tell you this the more you do it the more comfortable you'll become at it the better you'll become at it it'll start to be fun right and and most people really they'll appreciate the call especially sort of post covid people

34:40 still are not getting the one-on-one contact with uh you know with with other people that they lost during those years and so they they like that someone's reaching out to them now by the way if you're calling someone that you think may be a particularly good repeat source of business so if if you think they will or or you want to take a shot at it say hey would you like to meet for coffee I'd just catch up for 30 minutes or you want to meet for a drink and catch up for 30 minutes and if they will great that'll help you build that relationship and

35:15 face to face is even better than over the phone okay so if you have an opportunity or if someone calls you and says hey haven't seen you for a while uh do you want to catch up you want to grab a cup of coffee or a drink after work or something like that yeah hey they're doing the work for you because they're reaching out to you so take that opportunity so say Well they're probably going to want to sell me something oh okay fine so so then turn around and say you know hey you're not gonna again you're not looking to sell them and maybe what they're trying to sell you is something worthwhile for you or you can say to them gosh I don't

35:51 have a need for it now but I certainly will keep you in mind on this subject and if I have any questions about it I'll give you a call or if I come across somebody who needs what you're doing I'll I'll let them know about you or I'll let you know about them or whatever however you're comfortable doing that okay and then you can pitch back to them by the way I I also started a new business oh you did oh great right and maybe you can over the time you'll create a situation where you're both trading potential clients back and forth that's that's the best

36:27 right because you're both supporting each other's businesses so that's technique number one it costs you literally zero I mean unless you don't have a phone which you'll have to go get a phone but if you have a phone anyway most phone plans these days they don't charge extra for making more calls right so it's not going to charge you it's not going to cost you anything more than you're already paying okay um and and the other thing is when you're making these calls keep a list of who you're calling and the date that you reach them

37:02 okay because you're gonna once you've called everybody once you're going to want to re-contact that person basically once a quarter once every three months okay now there are other people saying no you need to call them every week every month in certain limited cases that may be the case but for most people once every three months is going to be enough and what you are going to find is certain people you are going to naturally be talking to them more often so you those conversations are going to happen regardless and other people you

37:37 are going to have to reach out to and and again they'll generally be open to it to hearing from you they already they you know they get to know you and and one of the things I would encourage you to do is ask about them how are you doing what are you doing these days professionally how can I help you with that okay make a little note of that okay so you know how can I help this person professionally if I help someone if I help someone get a client or if I refer someone to them if he becomes a client

38:13 they're much more likely to want to help me get a client right it's it's it's it's natural people want to Express gratitude on some level or they may feel obligated wow you know Kevin helped me get a client so gosh I really need to return that favor and that's fine you know that kind of mutuality is is a good thing right I I would argue when someone gives me a piece of business I certainly want to return the favor so so that's what you're looking to do and you're looking to build those relationships okay and I've talked about relationship

38:50 building before most research tends to show we can maintain relationships with about 150 people that's you know on a regular basis that's pretty much the extent of it I I will tell you I'm hard-pressed with 150. um so uh you know if if all you're doing in the beginning is keeping in touch with 50 people or 75 people that's much better than keeping in regular touch with nobody okay so if you think you I I there's no way I can do 150. ah fine don't worry about it what is the number you can do

39:25 on a regular consistent basis because calling 50 people every three months is better than calling 150 people once a year going back to the principle of consistency okay all right so that's tactic number one tactic number two is find your social media niche now social media has become so ubiquitous it's everywhere and there's

40:01 so many different ways we can use it and it's not just social media in the sense of social media websites or social media platforms like you know Facebook and Twitter and such that's just one kind of social media there's blogging there's audio podcasting there's video podcasting there are all kinds of things that you can do and the Temptation is to try and do lots of them frankly that's the wrong strategy the better strategy is to find and at

40:39 least in the beginning one thing that you can do you guessed it right consistently okay so if you like to write okay that's a much better thing for you to do if you write if you're willing to write consistently then maybe to do a podcast where you've got to be able to talk for you know 30 minutes or an hour or whatever whatever the length of your podcast is and you're uncomfortable doing that kind of speaking or interviewing guests or however you decide to structure a podcast or think

41:14 you want to structure a podcast so look for something that a you're good at and B you're comfortable doing okay so for example if you're in some kind of business where recruiting other people is important so the the probably the best thing you can do with social media is use LinkedIn to reach out to people that you don't know because people are on LinkedIn to find professional opportunity that's why they're there

41:49 right so better than being on Facebook or Instagram or whatever people are on LinkedIn to find work either to find customers or to find a new job or find a new business or whatever it is right so whatever you're going to do linkedin's probably going to be the venue or the platform you want to use okay now if you're doing something like uh um my daughter sends me videos of this this fellow he he makes these unbelievable chocolate Creations is the

42:24 only I mean he'll like make literally a tree with Doves on and all and it's all made of chocolate and it's you know it's like it's it's it's it's it's as tall as I am okay they're just amazing okay LinkedIn is not the place for him to be okay he he's on uh YouTube because that's where he can post short videos showing how he makes his creations right that's much much better okay and um I have a a friend um Edie Eisen she's she was on one of

42:59 the I think it was may have been the first episode of of my show now going back but it's been about three years now and she deals with a healthy diet healthy eating healthy habits okay her business is called Garden of Edie okay check it out so I think her main social media marketing is done through Instagram okay because first of all she's very photogenic she has a great personality she does very short videos that she posts on LinkedIn giving tips on how to

43:35 improve your diet or or showing some kind of interesting vegetable what you can do with it all kinds of really fun stuff right um she maybe she may be on YouTube as well where I see her is on uh Instagram and I've seen over the last two years her Instagram following has gone from essentially nothing to she has a really great following now so her posts will regularly Garner gosh I think the last time I saw it was 400 likes that's really impressive okay and she's she is

44:10 a presence now on Instagram and I think that's where she's focused rather than being on Instagram and YouTube and Facebook and you know Twitter or whatever else she's really focused and she's tailored her marketing her message for Instagram right and Instagram is fundamentally it's about visuals pictures or videos and she's become very very skilled at that she and her her team I think she has people who help her with it so

44:45 for example if you want to see how to be effective on Instagram look up Edie eisendesser and a garden of Edie and see what she's doing okay and you know borrow it basically I mean obviously don't do exactly the same thing but see the techniques that she's using and then modify them for your business okay now um that's and that's the key thing and again it's consistency so um going back to Edie because she's such

45:20 a great example she posts a video almost every week okay and it's short I think most of them are maybe a minute a minute and a half you say oh no problem you'd be surprised how much work that is to do it week after week after week it's a lot of work which and I'm not trying to scare you off from doing it quite to the contrary I'm hoping that whatever you decide to do you'll go into it with your eyes open and you will allocate the proper amount

45:55 or the you know reasonable amount of time each week in order to make sure you can keep your consistency going okay so once a week every week is far better than doing three or four this week none next week one the week after none the week after that that is not nearly as effective better to do one effective piece every week now on occasion you you can miss a week right you've seen with my show on occasion I I don't broadcast okay maybe two or three

46:33 times a year so two or three times out of fifty for for specific reasons I don't have a broadcast okay although now I figure out a way to do that where I should be able to consistently broadcast every week even if I'm not literally doing it live okay like I am today I'm I'm literally live uh last week if you saw the show I actually was was not lie it aired in this time slot but I pre-recorded the show and then aired it in this regular time slot because I had something I had to do during the show's regular time slot and

47:11 that that was that had been a problem previously so I figured out a solution to that and the same thing is true for you once you choose your social media niche you want to be absolutely consistent and and that and and after sometimes you won't be able to be and so that then the the challenge will be okay how how what could I have done so I didn't miss this week right could I have made two pieces the prior week posted the one live and then maybe I could have posted the other one on something like buffer which is a

47:47 social media posting thing that you can schedule in advance I mean you you can do it on you can certainly do it on Facebook I know that I don't know if you can schedule on uh uh on uh Instagram in advance and then it'll post you know when you set the date I I'm not clear I'm not clear about that um but in any event that'll be the challenge going forward then okay um if you're going to be doing a Blog right it can be a challenge to write and and you know you got to keep up it for a while it was thought short blog posts were the most effective and then longer

48:23 blog posts that really engaged longer blog posts that really engage you know the reader those were more effective so you can you'll have to keep up on those kinds of Trends as well and make sure then that you're allocating enough time to be able to write the length of blog posts you need to write now what you may decide is you know what I'm going to take I don't know four hours on a Sunday and write four blog posts and those will be my four for that month and since I'll get myself in writing mode and and knock them all out or maybe

48:59 I'll knock them out one Sunday and then the next Sunday I'll edit them and and tighten them up and all of that make them better okay and I'll and I'll do that rolling making sure that I'm always getting my four blog posts done for the month two or three weeks ahead of when I actually need them right so if something happens you've got a little bit of of wiggle room in order to catch up if you know maybe the rate you're going to do this on the you know uh first Sunday of the month you're gonna write them the Second Sunday you're going to edit them and those will be the ones you use for the following month but you know the

49:35 first Sunday of the month you've got an event you have to go to so you have to move things down by a week and that that'll work okay because you'll still be able to have them ready for the following month however you schedule it out just like with your calling put those times in your schedule it's an appointment with yourself for the time it takes to create whatever social media media you need so you can consistently post okay and there's going to be some trial and error and sometimes you're

50:11 you're gonna blow it okay I certainly have I've blown it lots of times all right that's that it's disappointing but don't let it throw you off just let yourself get back on track what can I learn from having made that mistake and how can I do it better going forward okay so let's let's review let's let's review strategy first okay again I've said it probably 10 times or more consistency is the number one principle

50:46 of getting your clients of getting clients getting customers consistency consistency consistency whatever you're gonna do start out doing something that you can regularly do daily weekly okay in general monthly is probably not going to be frequent enough for it to be effective so I would look at things you're going to do either daily or weekly and you schedule in those times into your calendar like I said their appointments with yourself to get this done number two in strategy have a

51:22 proven plan a proven system for getting customers okay I'll I'll show the book again uh you know Gorilla Marketing in 30 days this is a great system it's very simple easy to use especially if you don't have any experience or you have little experience in marketing I highly recommend it the link will be in the show notes and like always it'll be a an affiliate link and if if you buy the book I think I get you know like uh 10 cents or something okay but don't buy the book because you know you know it's going to give me 10 cents buy the book because you think it'll be useful for

51:58 you and you think it'll be worthwhile okay so have a proven plan a proven system that's principle number two principal now principle number one in terms of content number one have a call to action what do you want the prospective customer to do call you drop by ask questions uh send you an email send you a text message whatever it is okay have some kind of call to action and number two

52:33 have the why okay what is your competitive Advantage explain to them why should they call you or get in touch with you as opposed to someone else who does the same thing okay so call to action competitive Advantage those are the two principles of content okay and then going to tactics to tactics tried and true they work for many many many people number one Paul everyone you know

53:09 okay family friends colleagues don't sell them just let them know what you're doing and be interested in what they're doing okay and let them know that you're there if they have a problem in your field you're there to help you're there to help okay so if they've got a question about Plumbing or clothes or whatever it is or food I'm here to help send me a message give me a call right and answer it okay quickly as quickly as you possibly can okay now by

53:44 the way uh that doesn't mean you have to answer them on weekends necessarily okay although if it's plumbing and and they have a link that a leak I mean then you know weekends yeah you probably want to be there you get time and a half or whatever the you know the standard is okay but um Paul everyone you know become the resource in your field for everyone as many people you know as possible and then number two figure out what is your social media niche and then consistently act in that Niche

54:19 so be narrow not broad don't worry that there's whatever 10 20 50 things you can do social media wise that's all good and well the nice thing about having so many different options is you can find one that works for you that you're comfortable using and that you can apply consistently okay with social media it doesn't necessarily have to be daily weekly oftentimes is fine it'll depend on what you're doing okay and you'll you'll want to look into that a little bit get some get some advice from

54:54 reputable um people who who advise on social media okay and find out do I need to do something twice a week once a week three times a week okay but for the most part social media you don't have to be on social media every day you you you don't um if you're getting messages through social media you can set them up so if you get a message you're notified and you can respond to that but otherwise you don't need to be blogging you know every day or posting a video every day that that clearly is not necessary okay so there you have it how to get your first few clients

55:29 strategy in the process strategy and the content two tactics and that'll get you ready to go as always if you have any questions any thoughts feel free to reach out to me right here's my call to action right send me a message post a comment on one of the social media Outlets where the show is broadcast send me did I say send me an email I don't remember now send me a message I guess I say send me an email my email address uh will be in the show notes as well happy to help you out happy to share a resource with you

56:05 and um you know help you get going in the right direction Okay so that is it for today's show so thank you very very much for joining me or if you're watching this uh recorded thank you for watching the show recorded I hope you will consider uh subscribing to my YouTube channel the way to wow show channel and that way you'll get notified each time a new video posts which is once a week um although starting next week I think it's going to be twice a week right because I'm launching the second show by
