0:01 who are you and where are you going what do you [Music] want hello and welcome to people making money I'm your host Kevin bemel and we are here every Wednesday at 10: a.m. Pacific time to talk about all matters relating to business and our business and professional lives as as well as

0:36 investing in wealth building so this is kind of my the Capstone show it was an outgrowth of my original show where I talked about all the various aspects of the three pillars of attainment um it was in a different iteration then um but but nonetheless um that's that's why you see on the the crawl at the bottom this is season five um it it the first three seasons weren't under this name the first three seasons were just the way to while show um but you know thought i' you know for for absolute you know Clarity and how all this works so uh

1:12 last week I talked about the types of relationships that we should consider building in order to uh gain the level of Business and Professional success that we wanted or that we want and I talked about several different kinds I think there was a total eight if I recall and by the way you can go to my YouTube channel um and and view that that episode if you'd like to see it uh today I want to talk about holiday workplace etiquette so we're we're heading into the holiday season now um

1:48 Halloween is tomorrow um I don't know how many workplaces have Halloween parties although I I see you know quite a number that have Halloween decorations around it's you know it's fun um especially if you've got the candy out I'm not going to not take the candy for sure um got to have those you know Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and and and you know um you know the the Snicker bars Etc um so um and then you know we're on into um Thanksgiving and and of course Christmas and New Year's and you

2:26 know even um at the um there there's a a company that I oversee so um you know we were talking yesterday at our staff meeting about doing kind of an end of the year reception to have our clients come by and you know just just take some time here at the you know as the year is coming to a close to uh you know thank them and and and do something on a you know a less Strictly Business uh um this basis so that having been said um I I think I think it's it's time so um

3:03 there's I forget who said this um but there there's this sort of you know famous adage I don't need to be told but I need to be reminded and I I think we all know you know what is the the you know proper way to to deport ourselves um in a in a business situation um but you know as the um you know things become less formal in the workplace and and you know the the the F the party atmosphere goes on I think we need to remind ourselves

3:38 um you know what what are kind of the the the standards of of conduct and so I came up with uh seven um that I I I want to talk about um and this is going to be a actually a relatively um brief show I think today um but I think like I said good for us to just take a few minutes review these and and maybe put in our you know the back of our own minds you know how you what is going to be my sort of you know modus operandi um a as you know I I attend various holiday events and and and I

4:14 would argue by the way that although I'm talking about a workplace context I think that these rules would um they apply really in in any kind of uh n networking um or even um uh nonwork party context just any kind of social event whether it's work-related or not so um for you know the idea of course is is to in in a a workplace party to balance the

4:50 professional atmosphere with the sense of of of festive spirit that that the holidays bring and uh and so that's really kind of the perspective that that I'm coming from so first and foremost as you might guess from from a host who you know wears a tie every time you see him or or actually almost every time you see him number one is is is dress appropriately now I stress the appropriately so if the if the holiday party is is in the office

5:27 and and they don't Des desate what the dress code is I I strongly recommend asking the part the person or the people who are who have organize the party you know what is the dress code because these days to assume that it's maybe office casual when it's not could could be a blunder so oftentimes clients are invited to these parties and you know the the the organization the company the practice wants to put its best foot forward and so they may

6:02 want people in business attire now of course business attire too is not uh is no longer a set um way of of dressing so you know going back into the 80s and probably still in the 90s you know when we said business attire for men that meant at you know most likely a suit and tie but at least a coat and tie and and you know Sports code and slacks and you know a collar shirt and a tie now I'm not even among lawyers I see they're not

6:37 necessarily wearing a suit and tie maybe in court but I've seen lawyers in court uh you know men who are not wearing a tie in court so I would say you know also make sure you understand what does you know how is for example business attire um be what does that mean in the context of of you know either your company or or if you maybe you've been invited to another company's holiday party and they say you know business attire you know business attire if you're in the tech World business attire

7:14 can mean you know jeans and a t-shirt right and if you but if you get invited to your lawyer's office and and and the dress code is business attire you know again what does that mean um you know are they do they mean business attire as they Define it or as however it's defined by the individual so it's a it's a good way to avoid embarrassment but also any holiday party is honestly it's a marketing opportunity as well so if there's going to be an opportunity there for you to meet someone who may be a potential client or may be a potential

7:51 funer something like that so the way you present yourself is going to be important right the the old AG that you you never have a second chance to make a first impression right so the default always used to be if you weren't really sure air on the side of being a little more dressy than you think might be required as opposed to being a little bit less dressy um and and I I will tell you that when when I go to holiday parties um so I have kind of two levels of Suits I have my business suits which

8:27 is what I wear if I have to make a court appearance or you know if I'm if I'm at an important business event where I know the you know the dress code is is business dress and then I have my what I call Lounge suits they're more casual suits they're they're looser cut um they're lighter Fabrics um um you know these days a lot of the clothing stores whether it's it's cost or whether it's um uh what What's the other one U scotch and soda although I think scotch and soda is not here in in the US anymore

9:03 but the the the suits they tend to sell tend to be more of a kind of a a more casually cut Lounge suit um they're very nicely made um less expensive than a business suit and and they're they're they're great as kind of a a way to be dressy without actually being as formal as a business suit so um and you can wear them you can wear them with a tie you can wear them with um a polo type collared shirt you can even wear them with a very nice t-shirt like these days you can get t-shirts

9:38 that are you know they're made in of of finely woven wool um which which is you know nicer than cotton and they they drape very nicely so um all of those are are you know potential options for business dress that maybe is not as dressy as what you might wear for like I said for example in a core heing so those are the kind of things to um think about and and I I I hasten to add to that shoes also make a big difference so um you know you can wear one of these

10:13 more casual Lounge Sho Lounge suits uh with um you know very nice uh tennis shoes so I have I've got my my K Swiss tennis shoes you know all-white tennis shoes and if I want to be kind of dressy but in a casual way then sometimes what I'll do is I'll put on you know one of my more casual Lounge suits with my you know kwis tennis shoes um typically I won't wear a tie then and and uh but I may wear you know a a collared shirt

10:48 like this with an open collar or maybe tie a scarf around my neck I I've done that several times lately and and and I've had a number of compliments on that so you know you get creative um and and look you know professional and and still hit the right Mark in terms of how dressy you need to be now obviously if it's specified a holiday party if it's Black Tie you're putting on a tuxedo um I don't think they have white tie parties anymore maybe at an embassy ball or something where you're you know you're going to wear a a tail coat and and and and a top hat I I you know I see

11:24 that picture of Elon Musk periodically he's he's in white he's in um white tie but these days I'm I'm thinking you're Pro that's probably not going to happen um although if you you know come to my house on a Friday night for Shabbat um you know it it it it may be you know black tii event so um so so dress appropriately and and women I would say I would say you know you know dresses slacks pants suits um you know again it needs to be commensurate to what the

11:59 level of dressiness is now the flip side is is if it's a a daytime party maybe it's somebody's Beach House something like that where it's much less formal or or maybe you're going to an event at here in Los Angeles we have a an organization called the Jonathan Club they have a me they have a a location downtown but they also have one right on the beach in Santa Monica so I could imagine if there's there were an event at the Jonathan Club in the afternoon so you know whereas downtown you're almost always going to be pretty dressed up on

12:36 on the beach I would think you know you would wear just maybe you know slacks in a shirt or maybe even shorts in a Hawaiian shirt certainly if it's someone's private home at the beach or something like that they may say hey it's it's casual or it's Beach wear okay now casual used to be you know slacks in a sports coat um and and a collared shirt and a tie in the 1950s and 60s that was that was still considered casual right nowadays that would be more business attire um so again what do they mean by casual I mean can you show up in

13:11 flipflops um and you know shorts and a t-shirt uh I I you know I don't know I'm I can tell you I never would I'm I'm too old for that look um but but again you know however up dressing up or down you need to go just make sure that you understand it so so that when you get there you know you're you're you're comfortable about what's going on okay so dress appropriately um you know you don't want to be too revealing or too flamboyant but but you know nothing wrong with being stylish for sure all right number

13:46 two limit your alcohol uh consumption so um you know if especially if it's an open bar right there is a um an incentive shall we say um to have you know a few too many drinks so um I know I was at an event a couple of weeks ago um it was an open bar and um you know I had I had one beer they had wine but it wasn't kosher so I didn't drink it but I

14:21 had one beer and um and then I I was you know I was talking to various people um and I saw this one gentleman with uh what looked like a martini or a gimlet and so I went up and asked him I said hey um you know where where' where'd you get the gimlet or the martini he said oh he said I just just ask one of the waiters around I'm like oh okay so I ordered a gimlet I'm telling you it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had and if you watch my other show jiggers is place you know how much I like cocktails uh you know I was really tempted to order a

14:56 second one but you know a beer and a gim over a three-hour period no that that's that clearly enough alcohol that gimlet probably you know would have cost uh you know because of the venue 20 or $30 or something um but you know just you know had to be tempor and I also had to drive home so you know not a good thing to to drive uh to drive drunk on the other hand you know to have a drink and to you know relax a little bit in a social situation can be a good

15:33 thing especially if you find those kind of situations a little bit daunting now this you you may not believe me but I do when when I'm in a in a situation where I I don't know anyone or maybe I only know one or two people um I find it I really have to push myself to you know talk to other people and and I'm still to this day I'm very uncomfortable walking up to a group that's already talking and just kind of you know lingering and and until I have a chance to you know interject something or say

16:08 hello or whatever and going back to this event a couple weeks ago one of the reasons I went was to see a very longtime friend of mine who it turned out wasn't gonna be there so I knew nobody there I I knew one person by reputation and so I got to meet him face to face um but other than that I I didn't know anyone else there and I I did what I normally do in a situation like that which is I found a group of people that looked like they were you know a little a little bit more um boisterous than others uh than other people and and sort of you know stood

16:45 there for a couple minutes and injected a comment and they welcomed me into the group and then one of the people in that group kind of took me under her wing and started introducing me to people she knew there because she she knew a lot of the people there for you know for for whatever reason and and then you know honestly having a a beer um which I'm I'm not a big Beer Drinker but you know having a beer it helped me sort of relax you know having driven there through traffic you know you're a little bit and then you know parking and all that kind of stuff so so very nice event and and you know having a a drink is is perfectly fine now by the way if you're

17:21 not a drinker at all so then I would you know recommend avoiding alcohol because one drink can you know send send you flying so you know I a drink or two over the course of an evening probably you know fine more than that you know I think uh unless it's been a really long party and usually holiday parties are not I'm not sure how you can you know justify that especially if you have to drive home now if you're going to Uber home or whatever and so uh

17:56 you know you don't have to be um you know strictly sober um so you know if you're going to be there for three hours then maybe maybe three drinks is is appropriate now I will I will say that if they're serving champagne and I don't mean sparkling wine I mean literally you know champagne from France so so so you know if it if it were kosher in my case I would be very hardpressed not to have you know at least one glass an hour um because it is my favorite thing to drink in the world so we all have our our

18:32 weaknesses but just I think we want to be you know conscious of of of our intake and and how it's impacting our Behavior we don't want to do something embarrassing we don't want to um you know lose our inhibitions especially to the point where um we might uh say something that is is not appropriate or we might do something like fall down right those kind of things um or or you know God forbid worse so so again limit your alcohol consumption

19:09 next number three socialize beyond your circle okay that's one of the most important things to do at a a workplace uh social event and one of the nice things about them is you may not normally get a chance to interact with with people who are much much senior to you in the hierarchy but at a holiday party especially you can go up to the president of the company or the chairman

19:44 of the board or you know other seawe people the the exec VPS the senior VPS whatever and and just uh you know take a moment introduce yourself to the person and and wish them the greetings of the season and and and they're going to do the same thing and and if they're there they are expecting other you know more Junior people to meet them and in fact it from their perspective as well okay it is their opportunity to meet more Junior people in the organization that they normally

20:20 would not come in uh come into contact with okay and we have a sense that if people are senior to us they're all really great at networking none of them are shy none of them are introverted not the case at all so you know the you the president of your company or the the the senior managing partner of your firm or whatever you know whatever the organization is that person may be very shy and yet they're desirous of meeting Junior people at a holiday party and so if you'll just take the initiative to

20:56 walk up to them and and say hello and and um just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself I'm I'm Kevin bamel I I you know I work in such and such a department or whatever it is I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy being a part of the organization and and wish you Merry Christmas and and a happy New Year um and and almost for sure he's gonna say oh thank you for you know taking the time to say hello and um I'm I'm glad to hear that that you like the work you're doing here and and depending on how that person is disposed may you

21:33 know start asking you some questions maybe about your work or what you think about this or that or or what do you like to do outside the office that's a very you know again in a in a business meeting you're probably not going to talk about those things but in at a holiday party um talking about interests Beyond work is is a a good way to socialize and look if you find out that the president of the company maybe he's a BigTime bass fisherman and so are you I don't know why I picked that I just did um you know he's going to remember you okay he was like oh I remember that

22:09 that that you know that that young young guy that young gal that I met at the Holiday party really into bass fishing you know and knew all about the lures or the types of boats or whatever and you know really really kind of impressed me and if there if they're looking for you know someone um you know to to add a more Junior member to a more Junior person to be member of a team so there you go um and so you know again while you're socializing you're also looking to make connections with with people and so socialize outside of your circle socialize with people more senior than

22:45 you socialize with people more Junior to you socialize with people in other divisions and departments socialize with clients as well as people in your company the thing about a holiday party is everybody knows the way they work is people who don't know each other have the opportunity to go up to one another and say hello introduce themselves Etc so unlike you know in a restaurant or you know something like that it's understood that that you have an Essence

23:20 permission okay now I will put one uh caution on this so if if if there is a particularly attractive female at the party okay um she may be getting uh an an extraordinary amount of attention merely because of her appearance and and that is problematic and so you know men if you're going to approach that

23:56 woman and there's no reason you should shouldn't I would say be ex be particularly careful to approach her on a professional basis okay for for two reasons number one it is a holiday party it is not a bar where you're looking to pick up a date or whatever that's number one number two she may have already been try to be picked up a few times already and maybe a a little bit annoyed or sensitive to that and so if

24:34 you're you know approaching her on a on a strictly professional level so that will put you in good stead okay and and the third is um she may be a little bit nervous about the whole interaction she may feel like maybe she has to um absorb the the more sort of puent approaches that she's getting um that is not the case um that should never be the case now it can go the other way you know women to men although usually that's

25:11 much less of a problem frankly um but um especially if she's a a junior employee of the firm you know it she may be coming from a position of well I'm just going to have to take these kind of you know somewhat Sly um you know innuendos that I'm receiving and all of that because I'm Junior and I don't want to you know offend somebody um and for her to be approached on an professional level will very you know may very likely give you an opportunity to actually establish um a professional relationship

25:46 with her whereas the kind of relationship she might establish with someone who's being kind of ew about the way he approaches her is it's it's not going to be in the same context so um I I I just issue that word of C of caution because it's it's tempting you know this may be somebody that you've seen around the office many times you are attracted to her um you you you you know you she acts she's very nice or very you know has a very you know Charming personality or whatever and and the you know the senses is maybe

26:22 I can approach her and and perhaps something personal will come out of it so that can be very a very dicey thing now there are a lot of companies these days they do not permit that kind of interpersonal Behavior between colleagues um and and we we've seen I know I've seen over the last couple of years you know in the Wall Street Journal many uh highr not high-profile but many CEOs and Senior you know s seite people who have been fired because they were inappropriately involved with

26:59 other people in their organization so I think you know you need to understand your company's approach to that um and so if you keep things on a strictly professional basis friendly but professional that that's really the way to go especially when you're you know introducing yourself to someone that that you didn't know before okay this this ties directly into the next point I want to make which is respect boundaries so much of what I was just saying about

27:34 um approaching a particularly attractive female colleague is about respecting boundaries so uh I'll I'll say this again a holiday party is not an opportunity to cross into the personal realm with people that with whom you do business it's an opportunity to get to know them better but not interact in the way that you might at at a you know a social party unconnected with work at a social party unconnected with work I think there's somewhat of an assumption

28:09 that people may be approaching each other because they they are you know you know potentially romantically interested and or they find somebody else attractive or whatever it is that that's you know in a social party that may be perfectly appropriate but in a professional party that's that's not respecting boundaries so um you want to be aware of that as well the Ty types of things that you talk about um really need to be bound by certain guidelines

28:44 so um although a office gossip is rampant you know um trading in it often times is not a good idea especially if you're talking to someone that you don't know or have just met um you have no idea with whom they're connected and and to whom they might tell something that is sensitive so I I now I come from a religious tradition where gossip is is not permitted it's called lushen hor

29:20 which means literally evil tongue um I remember being in high school um um my my choir uh class was fortunate enough to um um have a a a session with gosh now I can't remember his name um but he taught us a um it was kind of a like almost like a calpo regga uh song gossip gossip evil thing much unhappiness it bring if you can't say something nice don't talk it all is my advice I I

29:56 learned that when I was I think 15 years old 14 years old something like that um I didn't do it with the with the Jamaican accent that he did it with um but it's always stuck in my head and so I I you know avoid gossip um number one and and then and then in general you know you want to keep the discussions um Prof professional in in tone um but but you know you like I said like I said earlier you may cross over oh what you know what do you like to do U or what

30:32 what do you do you know outside of the office um do you do you do you have any you know Hobbies you particularly like I think a question like that is is is perfectly fine um you know getting to know someone a little bit you know more deeply um but but that's you that's probably about as far as as you you want to go now um if you're um if you're uncomfortable with having those kind of dialogues one of the things I recommend doing is practicing and you can practice almost anywhere you go so if you're if

31:11 you're in a shop um I'm trying to think of so um several months ago I took my daughter to a a shop called Santa Maria Nolla or D Nolla uh it was originally founded in Italy a thousand years ago literally a thousand years ago um as an apothecary so now it's essentially a a perfume shop or a scent shop because it has scents for both men and women and my daughter really loves apothecaries and and that kind of thing and the Beautiful bottles

31:46 and all that so um they're now this this company has shops all over the world and so there was one in West Hollywood so I took her to it and um while you know she kind of looked around at the various things there all the beautiful things to see you know I I talked with the um the people who were working in the shop and just practiced engaging with people and the fact of the matter is that that's a pretty lowrisk way to practice because all right if you

32:21 make a mistake okay well so you may not be comfortable ever going back to that shop but you know you're not blow something in terms of an a professional opportunity or something like that so um and I remember I was talking to um one of the women working there and somehow we got on the topic of old movies which um for those of you seen my show jiggers this place you you know I'm a huge classic movie buff and it turned out she was as well it was something she got from mother and so while my daughter and the other uh woman working in the shop were were kind of looking around the

32:56 various things she and I had a very you know nice conversation about various old movies that that we liked um and it was a great opportunity I looked at as an opportunity uh to to practice and so you know take those opportunities engage with people when you're checking out at the grocery store or whatever the drugstore whatever it is you know chat with them a little bit and and and um you'll you'll see it will dramatically improve your skills for interacting with people okay next make sure you thank the

33:33 people who organized the party and and you know kind of from top to bottom so um I mentioned I was at an event a couple weeks ago um I I don't I the person who organized the event um for whatever reason she wasn't there um at the time when I was leaving because I I I went and asked the the young woman who was um checking you know people into the event um you know to to point her out to me so I could thank her she wasn't there um but I also thanked the young woman

34:08 who was doing all the checking in because she was working the event so if there are people working the event um who are associated with company now if you don't have to necessarily think the Caterers or the the serving people not especially I mean if they hand you something of course you know thank you thank you for my cocktail or whatever ever but when it comes to the people who from the organization who organized and are working the event um I recommend that you thank them including what are you know typically you know clerical people who are handling you know

34:44 checking you in for example or or your parking validation or whatever it is so it will put you a cut apart from most of the other people there the fact of the matter matter is most people ignore the the sort of administrative people at an event in the same way that most people tend to not thank the the bus boy at a restaurant okay and so take a an extra few minutes to thank those people uh they've worked hard they're

35:20 probably not getting to enjoy the the party in the same way you and their colleagues are and and so um you know have you know having someone come and make it a point to to thank them or greet them say hello to them chat with them for a few minutes will really enhance um you know their experience and it will pay dividends um I was having this conversation in a staff meeting um yesterday and we were talking about how um um being uh polite

35:58 and and um expressing gratitude um to sort of more sort of you know administrative Rank and file people is is very important not just you know not just because hopefully that's the kind of people we are but because it does afford us some benefits down the road typically so I I know I had a a circumstance yesterday where I had a call scheduled with with somebody and she had to cancel she had her assistant get in touch with me and her assistant started in very apologetic and I and I said you know don't worry about it I

36:34 said look I I understand these things happen certainly it's it's not your fault but I I appreciate you letting me know and taking the time to help get this meeting rescheduled and she was she was a little it was clear she was a little bit taken a back because I I I don't know look people have to reschedule meetings so I would think that most people would be gracious in in a situation like that but the the impression I got from her was that was not typically the case uh with her her boss's clientele maybe I don't I don't know but uh um my feeling was you know again she had nothing to do with her

37:11 boss not being able to make it I don't know why maybe she was sick maybe she had a conflict come up who knows maybe she had car trouble who knows does doesn't matter um she was you know good enough to have her assistant call me and the assistant is just trying to help me out that you know no reason I should be anything other than absolutely polite and gracious with her and so I think that's how in general we want to we want to be okay uh next if there are activities uh maybe there's some kind of gain or maybe

37:46 there's a gift exchange or whatever you know participate now I don't know about you but um I'm I'm a little self-conscious um about games at a party so I know you know from time to time I've been invited to um you know holiday events where maybe it's a casino thing you know they may be raising money or whatever um I I do not care for gambling at all you know maybe go to the horse races once every 10 years or something so you're out in the sunshine watching the horses run especially if you can be

38:22 in the infield and feel the ground moving as the horses come um you know and then put down a you know couple of bets um on you know particular horses that I enjoy frankly but but like casino gambling nah slot machines nah um but you know if there is some kind of activity going on it really is incumbent on us to participate and and and participate uh you know willingly and we have to be like overly enthusiastic but you know pleasantly participate um

38:58 and and um you know sometimes these activities they're meant to to build morale sometimes they're meant to help us break the ice okay whatever it is so just you know be a be a par there's there's one organization that um I'm I'm involved with and and now I'm going up on the name but it's basically um a Jew an organization for um young Jews coming out of college helping them get oriented into um the workplace into you know professional environment and the the

39:33 fellow who leads the group U Bradley Caro he always does some kind of um it's it's sort of like a game for us to introduce ourselves and all that and um you know again not my favorite thing but you know I'm gonna I do my best to participate um with you know a a sense of you know the the spirit of of the event and and and that's what's important I think we should strive to do that so um we we you know shouldn't leave before the game just to get out of the game for example that's that's not

40:09 being respectful to our hosts and if they are doing the game or the gift exchange or whatever it is so clearly they have a purpose in mind for doing that well I shouldn't say clearly but most likely they have a per purpose in mind for doing that and so then part of our respons possibility as a as a professional someone in a in the workplace is is to help make that successful okay and then finally last of of my you know seven tips on workplace etiquette is keep track of the time okay

40:44 so if the event is called for two hours don't stay for three okay right be prepared to leave at two hours or you know maybe you know you don't have to stay for the whole two hours maybe it's a 2hour time frame and and people are invited to stop by during the two hours for you know an appropriate amount of time now you if it's two-hour event with people kind of dropping in and out you know you want to set an appropriate amount of time you know at least 30 or 45 minutes to drop in for 10 minutes and leave is is actually quite rude and you're probably not showing yourself in

41:20 a particularly good light and I would say even if you're a senior person the sort of pop in to make an appearance and believe is is is rude to the more Junior people in The Firm who from their perspective this is an opportunity for them to meet you and they may be counting on on doing that so if you just put in an appearance and then leave 5 10 minutes later so not only are you disappointing them but you're also essentially saying to them it's not worth my time to be around long enough for me to meet you and and

41:55 that's that's a dispiriting message message to send especially during the holidays so now the flip side is depending on how you know formally the event is set up if they if the the planners may need help sort of you know taking things down or cleaning things up it's it's a good idea to before you leave to ask hey do you need any help um you know getting things uh cleaned up or or or taken down or whatever and and they might say um actually yeah we were going to ask a few people to stay after for 30 minutes or 40 minutes and help us

42:32 kind of you know put the room back if you'd be willing to do that we'd really appreciate it right or they might say no no we're we're good we're GNA let things sit and we'll take care of it tomorrow whatever it is okay but they're gonna appreciate the fact that that you asked um and and that's a good thing to do before you leave as well it can be something that if you're going to you know say goodbye to the person who planned the event and say hey I'm I'm thinking about um taking off now but before I go just wanted to to thank you for organizing the event it was lovely and and I you know if you you know if

43:07 you need some people to to stay to help clean up I'm certainly um happy to do that we just wanted to check with you on that so you're not left in the Lurch right absolutely they're going to appreciate the thoughtfulness of that and it's very much in the spirit of the holidays right that's that this is this is the time of year to do that so uh in in in summary just going over the seven points again so dress appropriately limit alcohol uh consumption socialize beyond your usual Circle respect

43:44 boundaries make sure to say thank you Express gratitude to the various people participate in any activities and finally just keep track of the time so that you're not um on the one hand overstaying your welcome and on the other hand sort of leaving it to everybody else uh you know to have to stay afterwards to clean up while you're off you know doing whatever it is that you're doing so my my I'm not going to wish you a happy holidays yet not not quite time for that but my hope is that you will have um a number of opportunities to go to to holiday parties um I it's this

44:19 is my favorite time of the year fall leading into um the beginning of winter um I just find people seem to be more friendly more open whether it's in the stores on the street in the workplace whatever um everybody's looking forward to a little bit of downtime perhaps at the end of the year and and so it's it's a great time to to make connections and and to to get to know people uh on a little more solid basis than maybe in our our just day-to-day you know workplace situations so I I encourage
