The WAY to WOW Shows Entrepreneurship Means Embrace the Grind December 13, 2023 Automatically generated from YouTube captions; names and wording may contain errors. [0:15] hello and welcome to people making money I'm your host Kevin bemel and we are here every Wednesday at our new time 10: a.m. and we talk about things related to professional success wealth building and all of those factors that come into living the kind of life that we want to live so um I I I was talking to somebody a while back and they said you know people making money I I I don't make big money I'm not Elon Musk and and people making money is kind of tongue and cheek right because the re the reality is like [0:51] it or not we have to earn money in order to live here in you know the United States and and pretty much for the rest of the world it's it's not like 200 years ago where we could sling a rifle over our shoulders walk off into the Wilderness and you know live off the land so um under you know under that guys I think the challenge then is to find a way to make money that gives us the amount that we want for the life we want to live but also gives us satisfaction and to that end my guest [1:27] today I think is you're going to see as a example of of that philosophy so William Elkins ivth William um is is is really kind of an entrepreneurs entrepreneur in that sense um we're going to be talking about one of his business ventures today um but but he's actually booked on another one of my shows in a few weeks to talk about another one of his Ventures and and so I I encourage you to to really you know hear William's [2:02] message because um this this is and and I I hope you don't mind myself saying this is a young man or at least younger than me right I'm trying to catch up to you man you know you got the young Spirit man um but he's he's a young man who's who's you know really you know built his life in many ways from scratch which is what we have to do these days um and and and you know the fact that he's a fellow Trojan you know just makes it a little bit warmer in my heart so you know can't can't fail to mention that but William welcome to let get my [2:37] father out the room let's make sure he's not here you know oh that's right he's a UCLA guy isn't he the side of the house okay okay well in in deference to your being at his house I won't make my usual UCLA joke hey hey we're still been with this Chip Kelly nonsense man like like man Ain no go to that game I'm like oh man the Rival goes on you know just it's it's it's Eternal yeah literally college football never ends it doesn't you know [3:15] I have to say as an aside um this is this is back when I was at USC so we're talking the very early 80s there was a whole discussion back then about whether there should be you know like a tournament for college football rather than you know having the polls to decide who was the best team and um I called into a radio show at the time when they were talking about it and I said no you don't want to have you don't want to have a a a a um tournament because half the fun of college football is arguing whether the polls are correct or not right so if we have an actual tournament [3:50] now we have nothing to to you know AR about crazy man that that that's a real topic now with what's going on with these rankings man yeah right exactly you Bo I feel for man let whole another conversation exactly exactly well so William I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you as I normally do my guess on people making money to kind of go back as far um as as you're willing to um to talk about I know I I've people have heard this [4:26] several times because but like when I was a kid I had no sense that I would end up doing what I'm doing now you know I wanted to be I think an astronaut at one point um I wanted to be an animator you know because I love Disney movies you know that kind of thing um so I'm I'm just curious you know if you're willing to share it with us when when you were a kid you know what did you think you'd be doing you know professionally or you know what what do you think you'd be doing when you grow up right that was the the sort of quintal question yeah I um I had aspirations to be a [5:01] lawyer um yeah uh just just coming up and then you know at Mor house the whole path was political science law school uh didn't turn out that way you know I I learned that you know money cannot be the main motivator to get through law school you know you you gotta have some love and passion for this law thing and I just didn't have that much passion to do another four years after four and morous so um so yeah I uh I [5:39] went to business um I I switched Majors to business administration and that was the best thing you know it it more fits my personality um and uh yeah you know I just uh kind of put that on the backbone and HED in on the business side so yeah I I wanted be a lawyer growing up interesting I mean that is interesting you know besides the proos was was there what else was there besides the prospect of of four years you know or three or four years more school that that led you [6:14] to conclude that you know being a lawyer wasn't the right decision for you well um I kind of knew after college I I wanted to start making money I didn't want to go into postgrad right away so that was the that was one of the distinctions was even going to B business school they had requirements you had to have at least two three years experience work experience so um I was like well okay [6:50] you know postgrad is not out the door but at least the business route I would be able to start making money right away out out of col col I just I had enough of Scholastics I was ready to get get to it you know right so um so yeah yeah and um I just you know uh The morouse Business Association is is uh world-renowned um we were highly highly sought after by the major Fortune 500 companies and it [7:25] just I be honest something about the Morehouse business ass just really got me focused like this is where I need to be you know so um and I just business has always been like in the back of my head like I I I've my first job was shining shoes you know at 13 chamber shoe shine you know uh my guy Paul Steve these are these are vets that Paul Steve Steve [8:01] owns Chambers Paul was his brother these were Elders my friend we're talking early 90s La was a different city a lot more dangerous a lot lot more uh activity other other elements going on and this man started his own company in the midst of all of this my Steve and then Paul uh was his brother and ran it and it just I'm 13 shining shoes and focusing on tips you know um [8:39] because that's that that you get your little pennies hourly but the money is in the tips and that excited me it excited me it excited me to you know in the middle of the day looking forward to the end of the day to count how much money I made in tips so I think that's started the entrepreneurial uh Spirit uh um I've even doing chores 10 years old taking the garbage out getting a quarter here 50 I I'm a saver so I would always say so it always would excite me to see my money grow so [9:15] um I I would attest my father uh uh instilling this work ethic in me early helped out with this but I'll tell you what the my first job at American Express when I graduated from Morehouse when I got that check and I saw how much money Uncle Sam took out and then I said wait a minute I can't make no more than this every two weeks but the responsibilities and a workload steadily increases I said nah man I gotta figure this out because this [9:51] is not enough money for me and I was making 45,000 out of college in 21 that's pretty good yeah for sure when you break that thing down I mean it's I'm grateful but I but I said I need to find a tax write off a separate independent business so I could offset these taxes figure something out because y'all asking way too much of me but this is what you paying me so that that sparked it so so and and that you know that's really interesting [10:27] um it's you know when you said that I was thinking there was there was this famous episode of the TV show Friends where the Jennifer Aniston character Rachel gets her first paycheck and she's like who's this F guy right there's like there's like this sort of coming to you know coming to reality moment when we we get that check right and we're looking it's like wow um but but more importantly and and see this is where I always came from is the idea that someone else is controlling my potential [11:05] so to speak that that that seems to be a a realization you came to very early in your professional life and that that seems to have driven you to you know go beyond that oh yeah I mean you know just being control of your your your your destiny your future you know just your business um absolutely was was a eyeopener and um I mean it was either climb up this corporate ladder to where I could be making 100,000 250 a year now you know [11:40] when you're on that level and you getting that check every two weeks that's a different conversation because that's some good money because that's W2 100,000 a year that's different from self-employed 100,000 a year it just bottom line because that check every two weeks so I was like and I'm going tell you I was I was I mean I had aspirations to go to Wall Street like when I got into Morehouse and business and switched from poly to business I was I was out Wall Street baby because we had all the majors come in MX JP Morgan Chase Morgan Stanley Denny Whitter all of them was [12:16] coming to Morehouse to get because they know diversification and this is the cream of the crop we're the Harvard the HBCU right so um oh man I just was excited man you hear that you hear about Street you you hear the stories and just I mean just you know ambition just like man New York New York you know but um but it didn't you know I went another route so I just was like I gotta figure something out [12:52] because that could take 10 years and you know and it's not guaranteed so Absolut absolutely that was a major driving force as well just being in control of my financial future so so you're at American Express how long did you stay there and um how long were you at American Express last of the Year man doing the high of 911 okay they let me go um and then I went and got my uh real estate license okay um yeah that was an interesting time [13:27] yeah it was literally through through the hide and 911 and um yeah I just uh you know I was I was motivated when when when they let me go because I'm was like this is a good opportunity you know but then it sinks in like oh shoot check not coming every two so you know um it motivated me more um but uh but yeah man it it uh it was an interest I mean honestly [14:02] too everybody was I mean still to this day people are opinionated but we would have the topic we would have open-ended conversations in the uh in the office and it had to do with about 911 and opinions were around and um I remember never remember a girl that had been with the company for a while just like you know you you got to watch that I'm like what are you talking about she's like your opinion you're very strong minded but sometimes in some areas and places [14:38] in atmospheres it may not be well received just like wow interesting so I was like wow okay so you know that is kind of you know kind of stuck with me um but but but it but it but it showed where where you you you gota you gotta play politics you know you gota you know so I just knew that I needed to have some options I couldn't put all my eggs in [15:13] this one basket right right because the loyalty is not really reciprocated 100% because they'll let you go at a drop of a dime but they want you to work weekends it's like in their eyes it's it's it's the company then God they I mean it's it's amazing the allegiance that they require once you so-called or a company man or or you trying to make a career out of this and it ain't just a job you gonna be better better be [15:50] willing to sacrifice some of your personal you know because it's very demanding so I did not like that I did not I I didn't like that lack of reciprocation and loyalty because I'm very I'm the type of guy will go to work when I'm sick I am dedicated and loyal gotta be reciprocate at least compensate me you know yeah but but yeah so um I knew that I had to get just uh another Avenue yeah so you said you you got your real estate license and um and now where [16:26] were you working for American Express was it in in yeah ironically I the job was uh back I interned with them the senior uh the summer before my senior year in LA and they extended me full-time off and the job happened to be back in Torrance oh okay so I came back in Torrance and um so I I got my real estate license um started working for for a firm uh uh a mortgage bank but you got to keep in mind I was like 22 and it literally I I was feel like I have a midlife crisis going from 45,000 a year to [17:04] calling on real estate offices in the summer in Downey to 100% commission uhuh think about that bro that's that all kind of mess with you a little bit so you know um I went back into corporate I I I got a management position with was remember Wu Washington muu oh yeah yeah I was with Wu I was in their medag training and once again the the the Loyalty right so so they tell you when you're graduating you're going to take a pay cut I'm like wait a minute hold hold on [17:39] how how am I gonna be promoted or graduate to an assistant manager level position and I'm getting a pay cut less than I was as a trainee does that make any sense no what's their logic oh don't worry you'll make up for it in commissions you'll make up for it in bonuses but yet they put you in the lowest level producing Branch that's how it works you got to earn it so I said here we go again like guess what Kevin I didn't take it no I'm sorry no before before that I [18:15] went to work for a mortgage Bank you don't need a real estate license to work for a mortgage bank I was working for a good friend's mother rest in peace Brandon Woodward his mother Sandra wonderful lady in brenwood black woman that owns a mortgage Bank in wood in the early 2000s something to say you just got to give her a props but um I wasn't ready you know I like I said 21 like so um that's when I went and got Wu but then when I I didn't take the management training but I so then I had to get my real estate L because I started working with my godfather doing loans as a mortgage broker then you gota have a license so [18:53] um when and got the license and you know started doing that moving a little little fast how much time do we have we got an hour so so okay yeah so um you know started doing that I had bought my first house where I'm still now through the grace of God kep it but I did 100% financing this is doing 100% area era I was lost when I came when I got the Mortgage Banking job [19:28] they said yeah we offer a loan 100% stated stated I said what does that mean no how about this no doc say huh yeah yeah we have a loan no dock all you do is run your credit and we'll give 100% I'm like you're not verifying income you're not very no no doc I was I said H how this is the bush era 100% home ownership that's how they got this this stuff done the most the most Cutthroat and risky loan that [20:03] you could think of man so um but I'm being a hypocrite because I took advantage of it so I uh I bought but 100% but but my point is I had a $2,500 mortgage I financed my my leather couch by all my furniture was leathered out so I had a monthly liability debt of close to 5,000 bro and I'm doing loans 100% commission at 22 I did this for two years so so it let me know I love real [20:41] estate my friend but I gotta get some other income coming in because the the way of the the the just the nature of it right it could take you six months to get your first deal that's what they tell you right but then it takes 30 days to close so I'm just thinking how the hell are y'all surviving in the interim I mean gez Louise right so I just was like and that's a very stressful Life to Live oh yeah like just 100% real estate and I don't have any income property bringing in I'm just I'm just totally [21:18] commissions I did it but I said no way bro and then what happens when the when when the the deal falls out of escro and that money gonna pay your mortgage it's I said I need balance and diversification so kind of what we're here to talk about today I TR i i i pivoted into the uh private car transportation real started doing Uber X elevated to Uber black see this is what people got to [21:54] understand about this the whole Uber thing there's levels to Uber as far as the service and the ride share is concerned Uber X is a totally different product totally different service than Uber black SUV it is night and day and it's N9 day in terms of what it takes to transition to do Uber black So and I've done it all so I started out Uber X did that for about a year or two and at first it was cool but after a while man you know it's pennies it's [22:31] modernday slavery bro you're working till 3:00 am just to freaking pay the bills and Uber they don't really take care of they drivers like I mean you've seen the class action lawsuits I I work for them you know they they you find out you're taking a pay cut Christmas Eve when your passenger tells you did you hear the good news Uber reduced the rates oh but that may not be too good for you no it's not sir how how does that work you find out that you took a pay cut when they cut you your check during the Christmas [23:07] holidays that's 30% short that's Uber that's Uber for you no problem so I transitioned to Uber black right now at this time Uber was not allowing any new Uber black accounts in California because it was saturated so the whole business model change so now you got to work under somebody else's account so uh um group individuals they they cornered the market so you would get your SUV from them use their Uber [23:43] black account but you're paying 600 a week yeah six either either five to 600 a week depending on the year of the Suburban or the well don't let me talk about Escalade 700 even before the new bodies so it's a serious grind because Uber X you turn your phone boom boom boom boom boom Uber black n no no you turn your phone in maybe an hour before you get one hit maybe two but that one hit can be a $100 [24:18] ride so so the the the um the uh the um what do they call it the uh mileage and the per minute rate is significantly higher it's like $5 per mile per minute it's night and day compared to uberX so so the money is there to be made but it's a grind and you're not making you're not even black or even coming close to making a profit until you pay a $600 uh lease is what we call it so you can imagine how challenging that can be [24:54] but it it's an art and it takes certain individual you could have2 $3,000 weeks but the beauty the essence of it is in the private real the private clients the private service when they hire you off the books hourly that's where the real money is made and where the real service is so that's where I started my own company got it so before before we get on that I want to stick with the Uber for just a minute because I remember this is going back probably at least a [25:30] couple of years ago um I used to well it's it would have been actually pre-co so I was doing a lot of traveling I was and I was using Uber quite often talk to a lot of drivers and I remember talking to one fellow um and he was he was talking about how much he made a month and I and I said well how much do you make after you pay your gas your insurance um your your you know car maintenance Etc and and and he said he said well I I never really calculated [26:05] all that in yeah and I said well I'm just I'm just curious and he said and I think he came up with like 500 bucks a month or something after he took all that you know in into this a uber black this is no no this is a regular Uber driver okay um and so then I said if you take off the depreciation of your car cuz you're using it a lot more than you would if it were you were just driving it how much do you think you make then and he said probably nothing and that's when I realized I mean and and I I think this [26:42] applies to all these ride share services not I'm not bagging on Uber separately because Lyft they're all I think they all work pretty much the same way but I think what they're counting on is people are not looking at the true cost to be a driver because it's more than just this the the share that Uber takes it's it's all their other costs gas maintenance Insurance all that stuff plus the fact that you're going to wear your car out more quickly so I I'm I'm [27:18] just I'm curious as as someone who's been in that milu far more deeply than I ever was what what do how do people you know look at all of that in terms of whether they're really making money or not well you know from the uberX standpoint um it's it's pretty sad uh because they'll kind of have you by the konas so to speak because this is the thing the average I don't want to say the average [27:54] but there are a lot of there are a lot of Uber drivers in a lot lot of just [Music] um just just people in general that do these right share that don't that don't have a college degree don't have a lot of work experience so this is literally the only thing like they can do or like you I mean you can get another you know job at Rouse or whatever but you know so and and and it really dawned on me and it really uh just humbled me when I was doing Uber X and going through the motions because I met a gentleman uh I think I I I don't I was using Uber I met a gentleman that had three [28:31] kids and he was doing his fulltime fed his family Uber X wow and it just humbled the hell out of me I said I gotta just drive and and and give my praise and have faith and make and have fun out of this because I'm so business oriented I every time I finish a trip I want to see my money I'm calculating it I'm very strategic after the full day boom boom boom tally up okay this how much I made boom boom boom I can project my monthly my weekly earnings I'm a different type of [29:06] individual but once you you start seeing like damn man I drove from uh uh LA to freaking uh Sherman Oaks for $10 what the hell I'm losing so a lot of them a lot of them they don't even it's Uber X you're not doing that type of analysis like okay depreciation how much have I because you're just focus on the earnings so it's it's somewhat like a pitfall [29:42] because once you start doing it and then I mean it does pay the bill somewhat it's like you're you're relying on it now it's like damn I gotta get out here Friday night deal with this Hollywood weirdo crowd just to pay my rent it's it's a sad it's a sad cycle [Music] um but that that's honestly Kevin that's what made me transition to Uber black because I'm like I can't I I just [30:20] I can't continue to do this it's just it's really too frustrating you know right right but you bring up a good point man that's um drivers typically don't consider that okay so so so now let's you you you drove Uber black for a while and you realized the real the real money was in having your own car service how did all that come into being tell us tell us that story right so what what typically would happen is once I get a uber black Uber SUV hit and [30:56] get in the car I mean it's just my service is a little different I got the water candies goodies it's just you're in another world when you get in my vehicle So within five minutes they be like are you available to pick us up I'm like yeah well off Uber like yeah okay and see the thing is I'm G be honest with you I was doing this in Uber X I was flipping clients because instead of you know we charge 125 hour now industry standard is 150 but I would charge 50 but see you can't [31:32] you got to be careful with that with Uber X because they Uber takes it like you're poaching their client now with Uber black they're dealing you're you're literally a limo company ptcp there's other you know so what I learned is that that that's understood because you're a limo company you you're you're serviceing clients outside of Uber and see that because that's when I learned a lot of the companies that are uh that do Uber black are limo companies they're not just regular drivers no they're actual limo [32:09] companies and guess what that have been doing this far way before Uber oh Bro think about this man think about when you was in high school and you going to prom and you got that limo that's that's limo service right right that's been going on since the 70s since the 80s and they pay good money too but it was not promoted it you didn't really know about it Uber World broadcasters talk to people in New York s this ain't nothing new they shook up the taxi field Uber X [32:47] shook up the see what Uber did is damn near I mean I it's it's groundbreaking how they just literally came in and shook up the business World on the TR I mean you you got to give them some props but so they they shook up the Uber X shook up the taxis but see what I didn't know is they shook up the limos because I started meeting limo limo Uber black and they break down they stuff like man I've been doing this way before Uber Uber came in and just shut us all down so we had to get a uber black account so and then I started you know I had older vets in the game that that was [33:23] doing it but that was just Hustlers that was just I was meeting cats that didn't have Uber black accounts and is at these events just hustling bro I said damn bro I got to respect that because that ain't easy but it had me doing because they ain't hustling for no $50 Uber X or Uber black right they hustling uh 250 regardless 300 regardless and they would stick to it I see him turn away nope nope nope nope nope but they' eventually get one so don't let me start talking about Coachella boy wo you really up there there so so what so I [33:59] learned it's about the privates it's about the private clients that hire you outside of uber black so that just started be getting on M to so my thing was my strategy I literally will wake up 6: in the morning and drive to Beverly Hills the Peninsula belir Hotel in the Beverly Wilshire to catch airport runs because back then the Uber SUV is $100 from from belir hotel to LAX e you netting aund if you get a SUV but the goal is let me pick you [34:35] up so then they would hire me outside of uber to pick them up so I said okay then I'm like okay Dam okay boom boom boom so then I would start getting International clients or clients that are traveling in town they'll be like look can you just take care of us the whole week we here absolutely then I started looking at that money oh yeah oh yeah that's that's where it is that's where it is like you you s have $5,000 a week like I [35:11] see what what what the Vets was talking about like no bro stick with this you get a couple of privates that don't drive all they want is a driver and this is nothing new you have individuals that are so Savvy and sophisticated that they don't drive themselves they have their own driver their own Chef the there are literally hundreds of thousands of people just like this in LA because we LA s FR New York we're the top of the tier you got people that live in some of [35:46] the most extravagant Lifestyles that you will see in your life and those are the ones I want I met a individuals that they had one client they making 100,000 a year just from one because they charging 100 an hour you do even three hours a day five days a week do the math so I said oh yeah this is this is where I want to be and um but I was tired of paying the 600 a week I I was tired of kind of being there's still [36:22] limitations because it wasn't my vehicle I had a partner and Hike is a good dude I like I like hike you know what I mean he's yeah because because his his culture they they they monopolized the Uber black market in terms of the SUVs and the uh Uber black account they really really did something great so you literally you be arm median person you get your vehicle from and it's just like you can't avoid it you know what I'm saying like I'm like what what did y'all do man did y'all rally up and just head to San Francisco to the Uber office but but anyways I just so [37:00] um I I I was like and this was during during covid um I applied for the eidl loan because the whole Market ceased there was no business during Co right right and I still he still wanted a a weekly rate he I mean he brought it down from 600 to 200 bro there's no business I can't I have to give you your vehicle back right so I applied for one of the Eid loans and keep in mind I still was an independent contractor during these times and that's what people got to [37:35] understand you can always be an independent contractor even if you're like you know working for another company but you do some side business you're an independent contractor you could use that to your advantage and that's why the the the the um the covid loans were so phenomenal because they were lending to independent contractor s not just llc's corporations so I hope people took advantage of that because it was so streamline but one of the conditions was we need to see okay also independent con [38:10] if you want to be legitimate you gotta actually have a business and you gotta follow it with the Secretary of Business of the Secretary of Business you know what I'm talking about and that was one of the conditions why did they shut the courts down the next day because of Co I'm literally going to my notary to get everything notorized to be and it shut down so you got to keep your faith up because they denied me deny oh but guess what I'm talking about the eidl loan right guess what you people know you can always rebuttal you can always ask for a re-review when you're getting loans [38:45] whatever it is typically you you you have an opportunity to to to ask like look re review this again you know let me let me reapply it worked then all of a sudden I get an email from my notary oh yeah the the the offices are opened up you're finalized here's your company boom boom so so yes so Co sparked it all but the thing is I had to start all over because I would get my clients from Uber black flip [39:20] them all I had was my rodex full of phone numbers but these people ain't talked to me in two coach think about that Co was a two-year run right they don't remember who I am so Kevin that's what brings me here because excuse me I wanted to get a little bit more strategic in my alliances and at the end of the day I gotta promote myself because it is my own company now we do have an now we are LLC solidified you know illustrious transportation services I can share the [39:55] screen if you want but um I have literally Incorporated all the years of experience with Uber X Uber black because there are some transferable skills service patience especially with Uber X that I've transferred into my company I know the lay of the land I'm an LA native and our services are incomparable because just from the feedback that I [40:30] get from my clients and I know the average driver is not from La I use that to my advantage and our rates are lower industry standard let's just keep it let's just keep it real Empire CLS is the biggest Private Car Service Company in the world they're based in Manhattan Beach they set the Benchmark they charge 150 an hour 2our minimum plus taxes and gratuity we just charge 125 an hour flat [41:08] discretionary tip no pressure you don't need to tip my drivers or me we pay our own taxes so you're going to save money dealing with our company and you're going to have a different level of service I'm rambling on do you have any I'm sorry yeah no no no no this is this is all good so so I mean you you've brought up a number of of points that I think people can use in their own career so um one of the things you mentioned a minute ago was you need to be patient right um because so many people [41:43] I think they want success and they want it now it's it's like you know Violet and the Oompa loomas Daddy I want an OA Loop and I want it now right it's like you can't have one so so um how have you um been able to be patient but also still be able to pay your bills right that's that's kind of the Crux that most small business owners find themselves in is they want to keep P like I I have a friend he recently um [42:20] he was he was working on something he really loved what he was doing but he was just running out of money and so had to take you know a a job so to speak and and you know because he had to he had to pay the bills he couldn't be patient um and pay his rent so how how you know what do you say to like if somebody came to you and said you know William I I I hear what you're saying my friend um I want to be patient but I still got you know I gotta I gotta buy food and I got to pay rent and so how how do we you know how do we navigate that that [42:56] problem or that that situ not problem that situation yes yeah that's a great qu because I have I've been there and I'm trying to reflect [Music] um I mean I don't I don't mean to sound you know uh stereotypical that's not the word I'm looking for just mundan but I mean you you have to you you have to have um a believe belief in a higher power like you have [43:31] to you have to be able to rest in the spirit so to speak [Music] um there are going to be times where you do not know where your next check is going to come from so faithful without works is dead so and I mean I'm kind of going through it now the activity can consistent activity like yesterday I was out in the field uh calling on the hotels because we have a big game this week you know UCLA Boise State we're first La bowl and [44:09] we're we are aggressively promoting but I'm out Beverly wilser Peninsula I'm out talking to the coners so you got to stay active because that's when when you when when you when you don't have any business no money coming in and you don't have a strategy that's when you quit because that's when the enemy get you really will start working on you like look you ain't got nothing you ain't got nothing then you start getting getting discouraged so what I've learned is activity begets more activity begets [44:44] business begets money um you know you you got to do what you got to do at the end of the day right like you definitely like I like I said I was uh doing Uber X I was doing um the whole grocery store thing when Co started uh uh you know you drop off the groceries instacart or whatever it is instacart right so I say that to say if you're going to get in this in entrepreneurial World be prepared to humble yourself and do things that you not might not normally want to do because it will get like that where you [45:22] you you literally don't have no you don't know where it's coming in so I mean I like I said I don't mean it's but it's like just you know my relationship with Christ like it really when you were able to rest in the spirit and kind of have tunnel vision and to be able to block out the external and focus on the internal you'll you be in a better position and disposition to go get it [45:59] because I truly believe if you're frustrated or or discouraged or angry and we all go through that a lot of times it's it's going to lead to more of that like the laws of attraction it's it's really messed up because you need that more positive energy when you are down but sometimes you lead to more negative energy so it's like my whole thing is you got to get yourself first irregardless like you may may have a 90day late you may have a foreclosure notice like I get it but you got to get [46:36] yourself out of that you gotta get internally be at peace and then you can focus because it's hard to focus when you're angry you're irrational you're not thinking straight it'd be prudent for you not to make a decision right now so I don't I don't I mean I don't have the exact answer for that but what I say is you have to have a belief in a relationship with someone that's greater than you you have to be able to tap in a new [47:11] energy but you got to work you have to be grinding because I'mma tell you something that does make you feel better I am an optimistic all I need is a a a mustard seat of Faith just give me one Instinct like just give me one call one meeting okay we got a meeting set up that's all I need and then you just you you piggy back off of that and you and you level up and you level up and you you feed off of that you know just like yesterday I got I got you know a [47:46] potential meeting with the Four Seasons the pendry hotel in West Hollywood we're talking Rose bow you know we're talking the the B but guess what they haven't given me anything I don't have any reservations at this point for for Saturday but I'm I'm optimistic and I'm hopeful because I didn't stay at home in pity I went out in the field so you have to stay working you know you have to stay prospecting and active um but but also [48:23] you have to detach yourself couple weeks ago I was feeling down I'm not gonna lie to you business slow right now business is slow it obviously affects my life because I can't pay bills so one particular Saturday a couple of Saturdays ago I was a little little discouraged because I think I didn't get I didn't get anything for one of the games at Sofi and I did a lot of marketing and my buddy invited me to go to a all men shout out to the Twins and I'm like man that was the best thing I could have done it's the best thing I did because I was surrounded by new [48:58] energy that's why it's good to sometimes just go out go to a bar go to a friend's house go to the movies get yourself out of the minutia give your mind an opportunity to that's why like some people say go take a walk go to the ocean go to the mountains let your mind be free of the stress but you have to get yourself out of the pit out of the minutia where all the stress is so you know sometimes detach detach yourself from your work [49:36] because if you're a grinder like me and a lot of you fellow entrepreneurs you put in the work you put in the grind you're not lazy we're not talking about lazy this don't apply to lazy people if you're lazy you ain't gonna make I just be real with you if you're lazy and you want to be H you're not gonna make it go get a nino5 go get a go go sit behind your cubicle and collect your check every two weeks and do the minimum it's okay just being real with you you a't gonna make it if you lazy trying to be an entrepreneur at all it's gonna be a very very frustrating Endeavor for you so with that said detach sometimes get out of it and have [50:14] a faith in a higher being meditate exercise very important and continue to grind so I I I mean that's that's unbelievably powerful because it's it's a it's it's so simple right and and we want to I I think the Temptation is to say well but where's the Magic Bullet like it doesn't exist right so rather [50:50] than sitting around on your backside waiting for that magic bullet you just you just got to get up you got to like like you did you got to go and see more prospects because if you see a 100 prospects you know 10 of them will be potential clients and you'll get one deal or whatever the numbers are right I mean every every business has its its ratios I have a friend who talks about that he says he says you got to figure out your ratios right when I go out and do prospecting so I know that for each person I initiate a contact with um [51:26] 2.85% of that person is going to end up being you know a potential client you know what I'm saying I mean I mean like out of a hundred roughly three are going to end up you know being on my list of people to keep in touch with because we know we're gonna end up doing business that's that's that's what it comes so I got that's what it is right look at those odds you said you got to talk to 100 to get three that is La business for you yeah it and that's why people that oh I'm in [52:02] Maryland Andross I'm like well you're not in LA because La is very competitive so that's what he just told you guys it sometimes comes down to that you gotta talk to 100 to get three you know and he he's being very very proud may not take as much but he's letting you know that in some instances some Industries a lot of industries that what it takes in this real estate in this Transportation it's like that yeah yeah and that's that's like you said you mean you call it the grind it is it is a grind a lot of times [52:38] but but that's that's what you you don't you don't get successful without going through the grind right I mean that's absolutely not absolutely not so we're unfortunately we're almost out of time tell us again the name of your company yes can I just can I share my screen real quick yeah absolutely let me let me uh hold on one second I think I probably have to set it so you can where's the share screen uh okay you should be able to share okay perfect so yeah let me share this with you guys and I just want to vehicle Lincoln is m is luxury you got to look at branding so and and it shows so um but also let me show you a overview of our services so um we do pretty much [53:53] anything from wedding proms concerts sporting events city tours Airport pickup drop offs conventions corporate accounts funeral services we provide a different riding experience than any other Private Car Service limo company well typically have a Yeti cooler full of refreshments and libations for you but just the energy that I bring you're going to be able to play your music look at movies in the car you're kind of going sharing I'm not sure I uh let's let's see oh no that oh wait hold [56:17] on wait a minute there should be um it should be up at the very top you should be able to like cancel sharing top of the share screen hold on one second oh here I'll do it okay there we go I did it for you I was able to do it for you so um I'm gonna we'll put I'll put the information in the show notes so for for people who are watching or who may you know watch over the next few days I'll put the information how they [56:52] can contact your company in the show notes right right so they can get a hold of you and and and the fact of the matter is this will go up on our our YouTube channel so even subsequent viewers if they if they want to get in touch with you they they'll have your website they'll have your phone number and they can get in touch with you and and uh and and and get a fantastic ride I I I I will say that um when I in 2019 when I took my family to Israel we had a ton of luggage and you know frankly normally I would just grab an Uber to the airport and I thought no this is a mistake and so we did use a car service [57:29] um and it was the best thing we ever did it started the trip out right and then when we got back you know we're so tired we've been we've been you know over we've been in Israel for a week and a half it was it was really hot that summer um you know and when we fly back it's like you know 18 hours you know on airplanes or whatever it is right going through customs all that and we walk out and and and there's the driver he's there with nice you know nice big vehicle he's got water for us and it just it just ended the trip nice you know when he dropped us off a at home so [58:06] and you know if I ever if I ever do that that kind of you know take that kind of trip again I'm definitely going to use a car service um and it's funny what you said about the Lincoln because um years and years ago when um when I traveled a lot for business I would sometimes take a car it was a Lincoln Town Car that was that was the most beautiful car better than The Cadillacs so see the town car is the original like Private Car Service vehicle before the whole SUV phenomenon right who what was it Lincoln Town Car [58:41] Town Car right and I mean just so beautiful the ride was like it was like you were flying you know you were floating not you know not driving so so it it you know you you you got it all that's for sure so William thank you so much for coming on today and and and honestly uh you know just your ideas about how to be successful I I again I I I you know all of you who are watching I I hope you really you know took took on board what William said and and if you didn't watch it [59:16] again listen to to to what William's saying because this is as we we in in Hebrew we have the word this is the emis this is truth you can hear all of all this you know stuff about oh you can you know with with the internet and social media and it it so snap your fingers and it's done no don't don't buy any of that stuff you you you grind it out and you make it happen and and and you be happy because you have the opportunity to grind it out and and you know look look at this man you see you see a man who's [59:52] who's content with his life who's grateful for the opportunity that he's been able to um take advantage of and create for for himself this this is the image of a successful individual is is is right here and and and the fact that he'll tell you the truth about the ups and downs of success um you know that what you can rely on what what he's been saying to you and and and and I I I really appreciate that because not everybody has the courage to to you know come on and really you know really talk about how it is right it's that I think [60:28] that's the hardest thing for us to do because we we somehow it's like no My Success just you know oh was right all that kind of Stu no that's it never works that way so so again thank you very much for for coming on it was it great show wish I wish we had more time we'll do another one we will we will um so um that that's our show for today I thank you for joining us thank you for
