The WAY to WOW Shows Our Fourth Show Launches Soon July 10, 2024 Automatically generated from YouTube captions; names and wording may contain errors. [0:00] welcome to people making money I'm your host Kevin bemel and one moment we're here every Wednesday at that's bizarre uh at 10: a.m. Pacific time that's 1:00 on the east coast of course so today I'm doing something a little bit different I'm not sure why hold [0:39] on okay let's let's go out there we go okay so today uh I'm going to do something a little bit different um I had originally planned on doing our monthly um economic Echo update um however uh the um figures um uh didn't didn't come out um on on time and so um I'm going to delay that until next week and today I'm going to introduce to you a new show that I'll be [1:16] launching next week so I've been working on this for quite some time uh deciding uh how I wanted to to do it and and and that sort of thing and working out um the you you know the technology that would be necessary and uh it's really taking taking us back to the roots of the way to wow shows so for those of you who recall the first season of the show uh we turn my living room into a studio uh once a month and we filmed several [1:54] episodes um anywhere between four and eight episodes uh and then those episodes were released uh once once a week over the you know succeeding weeks and part of the feature of that show was uh I would bring in a guest to bartender who would make a cocktail typically themed to the topic of my guest or the topic of the show and it was quite lovely and I I invite you to go to our YouTube channel and look at [2:30] uh you know those those early episodes from seasons one and two and you will you will see what it was all about so we eventually um started u um shooting the show um in my friend Irene Becker's uh Men's Wear store allenes um and we set up a bar in Allen Dales and uh and did basically the same thing uh and then you know because of some changes uh I I revamp the show but I've wanted to get back to the um [3:05] cocktails and and discussion format um ever since and so starting next week on uh Thursday uh July it'll be July s 18th I think let me let me make sure I'm giving you the right date uh because yes okay uh yes on July 18th I'm going to be launching jigger's place and I thought I would take you kind of behind the scenes a little bit on some of the things that I've done to prepare [3:43] for this show um and it's it's launch and in uh just you know a day over a week from now so first of all I had to come up with the idea and uh if you have if you've ever visited my home um you know that uh among my um most treasured um it's I wouldn't call it a possession most Treasured Memories I guess at this point um is is my dog [4:18] jiggers um who whose picture you'll see in a little while jiggers um was a Jack Russell Terrier um he was um originally he he um was the my I don't know what you call your spouse that you're in the process of being divorced from it he was her dog um but U through some you know various crises in the years that we were together jiggers became my dog and um in the um in the [4:54] early days of our being together um I at the time I worked from um a bedroom in uh the townhouse that uh my wife at the time and I lived in in Beverly Hills and uh during the day uh jiggers would alternately sleep on this big um like overstuffed chair in my office or on Sunny Days I would open up the French French doors to the balcony and he would sleep on a little rug in the sun um you know while while the air kind of waft it [5:29] in and uh every day um at least once a day we would go on a walk together um either around the neighborhood or around the corner to the the mailbox place where I I got my mail and um you really uh you know some of the most peaceful happiest times in my life were going on as I used to joke with him walkabouts with with jiggers um he was um the most charismatic dog I certainly [6:04] have ever met I only know of one person that didn't fall in love with jiggers um and uh and and even for those who didn't uh on their first meeting um for for example my mother the first time she met him she didn't like him um and then the second time she met him she threatened to take him home with her which of course I would not stand for in the least uh and like I said over over the years um um we we had this sort of you know um [6:41] man and dog or or I don't know is is it really man and dog I think it's always boy and dog relationship even for a grown-up man um and uh and uh when I joined the Navy and and moved to okanawa jiggers uh came came with me came with us um we had a a second dog um who was a year older than Sasha um she was a uh um I I believe she was a jinda which is a I believe a Korean breed of dog um and also a very very sweet dog um [7:16] she she primarily doed on uh my wife at the time and uh and and she and jiggers were were absolutely great Pals uh jiggers um essentially never knew life with without Sasha um and uh and then when we came back to the United States of course they came back with us um and sadly in um 2012 um in the spring um Sasha um uh got cancer um and unfortunately it it spread and became systemic to the point where [7:52] um we we we had to put her to sleep and um not long after that um jiggers got very very sick himself um and and unfortunately um he was not going to survive the what was going on and so had to put him to sleep as well um I I believe that um jiggers died of a broken heart um notwithstanding his great love for me I think that you know not having his dog pal Sasha was um was was more than his [8:29] heart can take um and I remember um sitting outside the room the in the veterinary's office um and and being uh you know extremely sad and my daughter who was around five at the time came up to me and she said uh daddy you're you're crying I've never seen you cry before and uh I said yes yes baby I I am I'm very sad that little jiggers is gone we we had a number of names for him little jiggers was one of them um jigs was was another um but uh in in any [9:06] event he had a a huge impact on my life um and uh I think it's fair to say the lives of many people that that met him um one of whom was uh my father so at one point my father had a um a pretty bad Health uh scare he had to be in the hospital for quite some time and then after that he had to go to a nursing home for rehabilitation and um I visited him um almost every day and um after visiting him the first couple of times and seeing [9:43] that um well I'm I'm I'm sure he liked to see his son um he wasn't perking up as much as as I'd hoped he would and so I decided to uh um ask the um uh woman who was in charge of the facility if I could bring my dog to visit him and she saides of course and I assured her you he'd be on the leash and he'd be very um you know he he'd be very good and all that she said you know by all means bring him and and so the next day um you know jiggers and I got in the car and we drove over um to to the nursing home and uh I [10:20] brought him in um to the home and into my father's room he shared his room with another man and and I you know I said hello to my dad and you know gave him hug and a kiss and um and he saw that jiggers was there and I said would you like me to you know pick jiggers up and put them on your bed he said um yeah sure you know he was kind of being very you know nonchalant as my dad sometimes was and um and and jiggers just sort of sidled up next to him and just kind of stood there at first and then he he he sat down and and just kind of was next [10:55] to my dad and and my dad and I just talked and after a little while my dad started to pet jiggers and um and jiggers was always up for being petted any attention you paid him was was quite fine with him um but he just he just sat next to my dad and allowed my dad to pet him and we talked and within a few minutes my dad's whole attitude his body language everything about him um changed he he became um the only way I can say she became much better and um and you [11:36] know you you could see that he was recovering his o more of his his old self um and so after my dad Vis and I visited for a while um you know it was time time to go and you know I see you tomorrow dad kind of thing um and and I decided to try kind of a little experiment and I just sort of walked through the hallways of the nursing home for a few minutes and um and everybody who saw him brightened up just you know [12:11] he jack russell Tera you know not a big dog but they have a certain energy to them and jiggers like I said had this Charisma it just sort of emitted from him and uh and and people would stop they would pet him we we'd talk for a few minutes but honestly they weren't interested in me they were interested in jiggers which was just fine and um one um uh woman in particular um that I'll I'll never forget um she was sitting in the hallway in her [12:46] wheelchair um she wasn't asleep but she seemed almost comos she she didn't move we we walked back and forth through the Halls a couple of times and she clearly was not asleep uh her eyes were open but but she didn't move she like I said she no you know no expression on her face just seemed like you know she was out of it and um and so I don't know the second or third time we were walking through the Halls um jiggers um walked up to this woman he was on the leash but he walked up to the woman and she had her [13:24] arms just hanging down um off you know off the sides off the sides of the wheelchair chair and and he maneuvered his body so that his back went up underneath her right hand and he caused her hand to just rest on his back and he just stood there and I I just watched you know I wasn't quite sure what this was all about I'm you know I I trusted jigger's instincts um and within about a minute [13:59] minute or so the woman's hand started moving on jigger's back and after a couple more minutes again she just she just came alive um she came out of her stuper and um started petting jiggers and she started talking to me and it the the change was just remarkable I I I I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before or since [14:35] and um so then after that I I brought jiggers with me every time that uh I visited my father for over the next I think it was a couple of months um and at one point the lady in who ran the facility pulled me aside and she said you know I I really appreciate you you know bringing um jiggers everybody knew his name she's a really appreciate you bring him she said the people here just love him he's just been a tremendous um you know healing Force for them and and it was it was really nothing I was [15:11] doing I was just you know The Chaperone driving him from you know my house to to the the nursing home but it was it was really uh a most remarkable um time in in my life and um as as you'll see uh in a little while I I created some you know ideas around jiggers and one of them was um I I have a pretty uh large uh bar in my home um have for many many [15:47] years um and uh um I decided to call my bar jigger's place now some of you are wondering what is the jiggers is about is shouldn't it just be jiggers well um pardon me I am an afficionado of the elements of Style by Strunk and white and according to Strunk and white even if a noun ends in an s in order to make it possessive you have to add another apostrophe s and so it's jigger's place not jiggers place um because it's his [16:24] place and so that's why it has that funny little alliteration there so I just want to show you a couple of things um as as you probably note um for each of my shows um I have uh a theme um a name of the show of course and and there's there's a theme picture so if you if you look in this background you can see there's sort of uh you know money growing out of the ground that's you know um people people making money right that's the kind of Chong and Chic [16:59] thing um for those of you who haven't seen my other shows I'm just going to bring some of the other backgrounds up here so uh here's the background for trust and Estates weekly it's a multi-generational family first second and third generation um which is you know kind of what trusts and Estates are all about of course and then for business lessons from the military this one's a little hard to see because my picture is is blocking uh most of it um but um there's a um an E2 it's a command and control aircraft that's used by the Navy um and I thought you know kind of [17:36] command and control um to a large extent running a business is about command and control although you know we don't issue commands perhaps the way we do in the military um and so for jiggers jigger's place um I have a little um uh a theme there um oh and and by the way for for each um for each show you'll also see a title crawl down here this is the one that you see for um for U um um people making money and you see it's it's it's a blue theme so I'm going to share my [18:13] screen and you'll see here we go no here it is yeah so um here is the um oops go away there we go so this is the jiggers Place uh restream background and that indeed is jiggers he he was a tricolored Jack Russell Terrier you can see the white um the brown and and and black he had a couple of spots there and one on the other side of his body um what you can't tell is his tail was cropped uh wrong so a um a Jack [18:48] Russell's tail is supposed to be cropped basically the width of the palm of your hand um and jiggers was cropped just about an inch and a half long um but uh he was never embarrassed by it he wagged his little tail furiously when he was was happy um but but anyway this this is my dog jiggers and the um the uh thumbnail for the show also features jiggers here it is jiggers his place and the the sort of subtitle for the show is books life and Cocktails um and and the [19:26] the theme color is is uh purple or Violet so why purple or Violet well um you know this is kind of my my my conceit about jiggers he was the king of dogs and purple is the typically the Royal color um so uh for example in in England there was a time when um um the the S Only The Sovereign was allowed to wear purple garments so um so anyway that's that's that's our our our thumb nail for the show um and um and and [20:02] you'll you know start seeing that in our social media feeds and and and such as you know as time goes by so and uh the the so you know this this is what uh things will look like you'll kind of see jigger's you know little head and whiskers sticking out here and uh the the title crawl um will be here it is and the I'll I'll show you the the color here um this is this this is me of course just sort of uh um you know Shar sharing my my my love of my [20:39] dog so so there you go we'll talk about books relationships ideas and all the things that make life worth living so um whereas my other three shows uh focus on um more financial um issues trust and Estates business lessons from the military people making money wealth building and such this is really more of a you'll you'll hear me sometimes say well this is a topic better discussed over bourbon um and these are the show is going to be about those kinds of topics so sit back enjoy a cocktail or [21:15] two and we'll like I said we'll talk about books relationships ideas and all things that make life worth living the show is going to be on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m Pacific time so that'll be uh six Mountain 7 Central and 8:00 p.m. on the East Coast it'll be for about 30 minutes like most of my other shows just a little time for us to get together um not immediately before the weekend but you know before Friday Friday is usually the wrapup of the week and uh you know by the time Friday Night hits I think we're we're you know we're tired we just [21:51] want to kick back I know I do my the Sabbath for me starts at sundown on Friday so I I I don't think I can I couldn't really do the show on a Friday afternoon unfortunately um so I decided to do it on Thursday afternoons to help you sort of ease in to the end of the week and maybe have a an enjoyable moment um maybe when um the the stress of of the week is is kind of hitting its peak um and and and you really need some relief and and something just you know [22:26] fun maybe a little bit interesting to have your brain chew on um and and and spend that time together so now what I'm going to do and and and this is an experiment on my part is I'm going to log into um a second account um and take you to see um the places here in my home that will make jigger's Place possible so here is this is my workspace and anyone of you who have seen the show before you're you're familiar with his background it was at one time a little [23:03] bit different because it used to be on the other side of my room um so things kind of you know shifted around um um several months ago um but you know you you you can you know tell a lot about me the three pillars of Fitness is there my uh my goals my my purpose my mission all of that is there you can see things about my professional Pursuits of course the uh United States Navy emblem and uh some um you know goals like my My World Travel and then some things about my family you can see pictures of my dad my [23:38] daughter that sort of thing a postcard from my dear friend Dell um a picture that my daughter drew many years ago um and those sorts of things you know the kind of things we want to surround ourselves with um when we are uh um uh you know working and and and we want to keep in why am I doing this you know it's it's some days you know right work is hard what what is the point of all this well the point of it is is this and it's our family and and and and those kind of things so the sound is probably going to get a little bit wonky um for a [24:15] moment um but um so now I'm going to take you on a little bit of a tour of some other places that will um be the the foundation of jigger's place so going to go ahead and enter the studio [24:56] here you you should be able to hear me and so I'm GNA I'm going to walk around out of my office and I'm going to take you over to first of all um my library now people say oh Library okay um but I'm gonna turn this around so you can see um this is um my library so these are actual Library shelves here um I have uh close to 4,000 books in my library what you're [25:34] seeing uh here is the um this is the part of my library dealing with history so a large part of the reading that I do relates to Social and cultural history um so you can see up here books about uh the 1940s and the 1930s and the 1950s um so I generally study the era from about 1914 the beginning of World War I until 1991 the end of the Cold War um and but over here in another bookcase [26:11] so these are what are these are the great books of the western Canon they are the the list I use is the Chicago great books list um this is only a small well a small this is about I think um about 20 or 20 5% of them um and and you can see they range all the way from the Bi Bible and and homers The Iliad and the Odyssey um through Livy and um The Divine Comedy by Dante and then we get into some you're more familiar with [26:46] probably um Shakespeare of course moer the great French um uh dramatist and then into um there's some political works for example the Rights of Man by Thomas Payne and then into some of the great novelists um Walter Scott ivanho the Talisman Etc and then one of my favorite writers Jane Austin I have all of Jane Austin's work um including what's called her juvenalia which were her her early writings um and then um you know across more more novelist Victor Hugo of course which which was you know the [27:22] basis for the the the very popular um Broadway show um and then another one of my favorite author authors Charles Dickens I have many of his Works although um not all of them and then into more modern and and and down into the current time so um and this is my uh see if you see this this is my my fish lamp here um and then you know I have my reference library where um you know for for for easily to get information about certain things and then this is the um religious Library [27:58] here a lot of books of um um Jewish uh philosophy Jewish religious texts um as well as um things about just Jewish practice Etc and then a small collection here of of works from from other religions um and this will this the light is going to get a little bit dim here but so here's this is the backside of the of those um uh shelves that you were looking at before so you can see this is more of the history collection um that that um you know it gets into um [28:34] various subjects so um how um uh education and uh employment impact life um how the Arts Impact life things like books which I'm sure you're you're familiar with and then there's you know movies music uh theater television all of these various things and then into um how Science and Technology um impact life and then the the last part of my library is is the part dedicated [29:09] to the three pillars of attainment um and it starts with identity here and goes through each each of the um three pillars and the um nine Realms there are books covering it um you know I'm not going to go through through all of this um you know little by little you'll you'll learn about it um and in fact I'll just just real quickly um see if I can here uh nope wrong Irving here we go so the first book we're gonna discuss at jigger's place is a book about Irving [29:44] falberg um he was the Boy Wonder during the classic days of Hollywood um he died very young I believe he was 38 um and um talk a little bit about um um what what that golden time in Hollywood was about and and how it came about what his place was what his role was um in that and where the unlike my other shows which take place in my office jigger's place is going to take place back in my living room so um you [30:22] here's here's my living room and you you can see the the the sofa and uh well you can sort of see you can see the fireplace here let's see there we go see the fireplace you can see the sofa I'll be sitting here on the love seat and here um as I mentioned is this is jigger's place the actual jigger's place so there's jiggers both as a grown-up dog and as a puppy um and uh let's see hopefully you can see this and [30:59] you know here is my bar so there'll be a a camera set up um so that you can see the bar and and watch me um make the cocktails and um you know at times I may move up and down you see here's obviously here's some wine here's the these are bitters I have most of the bitman or I think all of the bitman collection um as well as you know stirrings blood orange uh bits are are just fantastic some uh flavored syrups from tan which are also lovely here's some other pictures of of jiggers so you there we [31:37] are a boy and his dog oops what can you there you go yeah you can see that boy and his dog that's the picture you've seen several times here's another angle of jiggers and another one um this up here is his paw print this was taken by the vet after jiggers died as a remembrance and one day I guess I'll I'll have to put a picture in the other side of that frame but uh in any event that that's his little paw print there um and there's there's other things here this is a painting of um the St Paul [32:13] Skyline by my maternal grandfather Maurice Pon let's see hopefully you can see that there you go um and just some other pictures here and here's you know just kind of the rest of the bar um you know this is these are the tall bottles that don't fit um in the regular part um you can see one of my favorites here this is Don Julio 1942 one of the great Tequilas Of All Times um over here are whiskies one of my favorite Spirits um this is a this is a Redwood Empire um [32:50] lost Monarch and uh it's it's it's a great California whiskey here's uh Duke which is a whiskey made by by um I believe it's the son of John Wayne um and then here's jigger's place so this jiggers his place I should say and you see this is the little sort of subtitle I made up for for jiggers uh it's where there are no strangers only great friends we haven't met yet that was that was jigger's philosophy as as much as I could tell um being that I didn't speak dog and he didn't speak English so and [33:28] then all these baskets of course are the various Spirits here's my box of uh scotch whiskies and Japanese whiskies you more wine etc etc etc so um jigger's place will will take place here now unlike my other shows it's not going to be weekly it's going to be bi-weekly every other week and um at least for now um while I while I try this out and and go to a uh you know four four show a week uh schedule now I'm going to switch [34:05] back to my to my office feed so hang on here for a second and you should be able to hear me now we go oops cancel don't want to end this stream what I want to do is there we go yeah okay otherwise you [34:41] get you get a funny you get a funny sound feedback so uh so so that's really um you know what's what's going to be going on with with the new show oh I was talking about how it's it's going to be um every other week um and so it'll start next Thursday at 5:00 pm Pacific time and uh again we'll be talking about uh books life and Cocktails um we'll talk about um kind of you know what whatever seems to be meaningful um there won't be politics that I can that I can guarantee you um I [35:19] I I think uh while politics is certainly an important feature of of Our Lives I think we we need to have a Time and a place where we know that's not going to be um discussed so you know we don't have to worry about um dealing with with our differences we can um come together and and and hopefully talk about um share things that uh are those that we we share things that we have in common uh like I say books relationships life's challenges o others of life's challenges [35:55] and uh talk about these things from time to time um I I hope to have some guests and like with my original show um and other times it'll just be you and I and uh it'll be a time for us to to relax and uh share just um some some calmness and comaraderie um as we head toward the weekend so that's uh you know that's really what I wanted to share with you today and I uh I I very much [36:30] appreciate your Indulgence um because uh um as as you can probably tell um jiggers was a a very special little guy in my life um and uh so this is also a way for me to um sort of carry on his spirit and and and bring it to you um you know look we'll we'll talk about dogs and maybe even horses and borrow you I don't think I've ever mentioned my Affinity for uh buros who are um amazing little creatures as long as you keep your [37:05] fingers away from their mouth because they have a tendency to bite so um but in any event uh again I I want to thank you for your Indulgence um we will be back again next week on people making money we will do our economic Echoes uh monthly economic Echoes next week um when when the U most recent uh data is released by um the Bureau of Labor Statistics Etc and so we'll we'll go over that and as we do each month talk about how do these things affect our [37:41] individual lives so it it doesn't much matter if inflation uh for the entire country was at 3% because you and I don't buy things on from the entire country we we buy for example food locally so what really matters is you know how what's happening um economically on a more localized basis and so we need to we need to take a look at that and uh and then um so on Monday of next week at 10: am Pacific time is my show trust and Estates weekly and if [38:18] you are in if you are working on your own estate plan or think you ought to be or don't know whether you should be or if a professional who helps people with their estate planning or with the administration of their trusts at trust in a or estate uh this is members I I I spend a half an hour on Tuesday at again at 10: amm Pacific time taking M taking things that I learned in the military things that I've learned from the study of military history or the leadership practices of great military leaders and translating that [39:31] into things that we can do to make our professional and business lives more successful and then on Wednesdays as as I mentioned a few minutes ago is people making money that's my one hourlong show and and we talk about all things professional and related to professional growth um starting and running a business and
